Multi-cursor editing: is this a direction you'd want?
#389
Multi-cursor editing, the VS Code kind. It's the one thing I keep wishing for in an outliner.
Where it would earn its place: renaming a repeated term inside a block, fixing the same typo in three spots, editing a list of near-identical lines in one pass. Every one of those is one edit at a time today.
A small starting scope that would already be worth having:
Mod+D on a selection, add a cursor at the next occurrence
Mod+Shift+D, add a cursor at every occurrence
Alt+click, drop a cursor wherever the mouse is
No column select, no add-cursor-above/below on day one.
The reason this is a discussion and not a feature request: multi-cursor isn't self-contained. It touches selection, undo/redo grouping, IME and composition, autocomplete and [[ ]] triggers, Enter splitting a block, and anything else that assumes one caret. It also multiplies. Every editing command grows an N-cursor variant. Scoping it to within a single block first would cut most of that, though not all.
So before anyone writes a line of code: is this somewhere you'd want the editor to go at all? What do you think?
