⚠️ SUPERSEDED by v3.1-rc1

v3.0.2 was submitted to WordPress.org under the sermon-works slug and bounced in automated pre-review on 2026-05-11 on trademark grounds. The pre-review also listed ten technical findings to address before resubmission. The plugin has been renamed to Mattytap Sermons under the WordPress.org slug mattytap-sermons, and all ten technical items are closed in v3.1-rc1. Use v3.1-rc1.

Sermon Works 3.0.2

Editor-pane render fix following the 3.0.1 cherry-pick of 'editor' into the wpfc_sermon post type's supports array.

Background

3.0.1 added the WordPress block (or classic) editor pane to the edit-sermon screen by including 'editor' in supports (mirroring upstream 2.30.0). The pane appeared in admin, but content typed into it did not reach the front-end: the add_wpfc_sermon_content callback that drives the the_content filter for sermon posts replaced the post body entirely with the sermon-template render, discarding post_content. Site administrators reaching for the editor pane first (the natural place for any WordPress user) would publish a sermon and see their typed content vanish on the public page.

What 3.0.2 changes

The callback now preserves the incoming post_content and, on singular sermon views where it is non-empty, appends it after the sermon-template render in a <div class="wpfc-sermon-editor-content"> wrapper that themes can target with CSS. Existing sermons (whose body content lives in the sermon_description post meta key, not in post_content) are unaffected: their post_content is empty, the conditional skip fires, and the front-end render is byte-identical to 3.0.1.

New sermons authored via the editor pane now render their typed content alongside the legacy sermon_description rendering. Sermons that have both populated render both, with the editor content appearing after the sermon-template body.

Install

Download sermon-works-3.0.2.zip below and install via WordPress admin: Plugins, Add New, Upload Plugin. If you have 3.0 or 3.0.1 installed, choose "Replace current with uploaded" when prompted. Existing data, settings, and content carry over unchanged.

Requires PHP 8.1+, WordPress 6.0+.

Runtime delta against 3.0.1

One file changed for the runtime fix, plus the version-bump touches:

  • includes/sm-template-functions.php — add_wpfc_sermon_content preserves and conditionally appends post_content (4 lines added).
  • sermons.php — plugin header Version bump.
  • readme.txt — Stable tag bump, new = 3.0.2 = changelog stanza, new = 3.0.2 = Upgrade Notice.
  • README.md — current-release references and queue-status line bumped.

No security delta against 3.0.1; no API surface changes; no data migration; no changes to the drop-in compatibility classification in .restoration/DROP-IN-AUDIT.md.

Acknowledgements

The conservative editor cherry-pick approach (F1.1 from the 2.30.0 audit) was the design call in 3.0.1; this release closes a UX gap the conservative subset created. Full upstream contributor list in CONTRIBUTORS.md.
