Guided setup, with illustrated instructions

The local configurator walks through six screens: host selection, LG pairing and app installation, camera addresses, panel preview, Home Assistant script creation, and private Docker deployment/test. The installation guide follows the same screens and includes six sample screenshots.

Download LG-Camera-Overlay-Setup-1.1.0.zip, extract it, and follow START-HERE.md. Node.js 22+ is required. This ZIP includes the verified v1.0.0 TV application; no TV player changes are introduced by this installer release.

Validation

  • Local player/multi-TV regressions and all 13 configuration/setup tests passed; dependency audit reported no vulnerabilities.
  • NAS Docker acceptance passed 18 checks against HA Test, including camera decoding and an announced television test. The user confirmed camera video, continuing programme picture/sound and automatic close.
  • Windows/macOS Docker Desktop and ARM64 end-to-end TV operation are not validated by the NAS test.

HA OS App: experimental and NOT TESTED

The separate LG-Camera-Overlay-HA-App-EXPERIMENTAL-1.1.0.zip has not been tested in Home Assistant OS/Supervisor. The NAS Docker result does not validate installation, ingress, updates or restart behaviour. Use it only in a disposable HA OS test environment. The recommended documented route is the separate Docker relay.

Private installation bundles generated by the configurator contain credentials. Keep them outside public shares, Git and cloud sync. No credentials or private test settings are included in these release downloads.

LG Camera Overlay 1.0.0 provides a transparent webOS camera app, portable Node/FFmpeg relay, local Docker/Compose build, and Home Assistant launch/alert blueprints.

Start with the installation guide. Install the IPK on the TV, configure the relay's pinned SSH access and private camera source, then create the HA scripts. HACS is not required.

Assets:

  • com.mbs.cameraoverlay_1.0.0_all.ipk: prebuilt TV app with GPL and MIT notices.
  • LG-Camera-Overlay-1.0.0-source.zip: matching tracked source and lockfiles; excludes private configuration and dependencies.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: asset checksums.

Validation: Windows/macOS/Linux tests, Linux TV-package source comparison, and a real FFmpeg/WebSocket smoke test in the supplied Linux container passed. HA 2026.10.1 Docker lab testing validated blueprint import, cooldown, priority and Pause/Resume. A separate app on an OLED65B9PLA decoded real camera video at roughly 24–25 fps; first-frame timings were individual samples, not guarantees. Timeout and lab-issued BACK were followed by encoder cleanup. The test app and relay were removed/stopped, and HA Test was stopped again with its unrelated Calor integration disabled. Production overlay configuration was preserved.

Compatibility update, 15 October 2026: the user confirmed that the overlay works on the LG OLED65B9PLA both with Plex running directly on LG webOS and with Plex running on an Apple TV connected through HDMI. The overlay runs on the LG in both cases. The viewing report did not identify the exact package version or itemize audio/BACK/timeout checks. See the current validation record for details. Disney+, other TV/HDMI source combinations, power-cycle/reboot recovery and a real NAS-container-to-TV route remain unverified.

No FFmpeg binary or container image is redistributed. Runtime dependency audit is clean; the isolated official webOS CLI has upstream transitive build-tool advisories, documented separately. Own code is GPL-3.0-only, with original third-party notices retained.
