All links pointing to unversioned specs under https://w3c.github.io/csswg-drafts/ are broken since w3c/csswg-drafts#8798 (comment), including the links in the "Specification" sections and in general body texts.

What did you expect to see?

All links pointing to https://w3c.github.io/csswg-drafts/, versioned and unversioned alike, be changed to corresponding links to https://drafts.csswg.org/. This means changes to BCD, spec-urls, and links in body texts.

@rotu This is expected, the commits have not been merged yet and this issue is not closed.

For the record, https://w3c.github.io/csswg-drafts/css-backgrounds/#the-background now redirects to the non-existent https://drafts.csswg.orgnds/#the-background. The redirection rule seems incorrect.

Yes, thanks — I’m in the middle of attempting to fix that right now.

I’ll post another comment here if/when I manage to fix it.

Well I “fixed” the redirect problem — but https://w3c.github.io/csswg-drafts/css-backgrounds/ etc. are simply serving up the index.html files I hacked in to try to work around the problem. And that makes sense to me now, after having learned that drafts.csswg.org is just reverse-proxying the https://w3c.github.io/csswg-drafts/ sources.

So I can see now that the hacky workaround I have been trying to put into place to deal with the w3c/csswg-drafts@52077ef change having removed the unversioned specs isn’t going to work — and we’ll need to wait instead until a proper fix can be made.

Given that, I’m now going to revert the workaround — which means that for now we’ll be back to getting 404s for all the unversioned specs URLs.

OK, https://w3c.github.io/csswg-drafts/css-backgrounds/#the-background etc are now all back to being hard 404s.

I hope that we’ll have this working within the next 24 hours or so (once Tab is back online and can work on this — or else if he doesn’t have the time, I can go into the https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/tree/main/bin files myself and get familiar enough with what they’re doing that I can write up a proper fix).
