A more consistent board, from the first forum listing to the deepest settings page. This release brings shared controls, clearer layouts and better mobile navigation to the themes, control panels and bundled plugins. Alongside it, meith.dev gets a new introduction to the project, the communities it serves, and the principles behind it.

One interface across the board

The default theme gets a broad polish of spacing, typography, cards, forms, listings and reading views. Midnight, Phasebook, Raidframe and Clubhouse share the common controls and navigation while keeping their own visual identities.

The same work reaches account settings, administration, moderation, messaging, search and the Calendar and Dues plugins. Buttons, fields, page headings, focus states and touch targets now draw from shared components and styles in @meith/ui, so moving between the board and its panels feels more consistent.

Forum and thread rows also respond to the space their card actually has, keeping compact listings readable inside wider layouts.

Mobile menus open from the top bar

The main navigation and control panels now use the same drawer pattern across all five themes:

  • The hamburger sits in the top navigation bar.
  • The drawer opens from the right, dims the page and scrolls independently.
  • Sub-sections expand inside the drawer, with wrapping labels and full-width touch targets.
  • Panel navigation opens the current section and highlights the active page.
  • Each expandable group includes an Overview link to its own page.
  • Outside taps, Escape and the close button dismiss the drawer.

On account and moderator pages, the header button opens the relevant panel navigation. Administration uses the same control, alongside a compact mobile sign-out action that leaves room for the panel title.

The drawers use native popovers and disclosures, so opening menus, expanding groups and following links still work with JavaScript disabled. Motion respects the reader’s reduced-motion preference.

Tabs keep the current page in view

Mobile tab rows scroll horizontally instead of wrapping into several lines. With JavaScript enabled, the active tab is brought into view when the page loads, the window changes size or the active destination changes.

Manual scrolling stays under the reader’s control. Without JavaScript, the tabs remain ordinary links in a scrollable row.

Forms are easier to use on a phone

Search refinements fit narrow screens without pushing the page sideways, and shared form controls give touch users more room to work.

Password fields gain a localized show/hide control that preserves the entered value and does not submit the form. Without JavaScript, they remain native password inputs with no inactive toggle.

The shared UI package now includes page-header components, navigation tabs, password inputs and reusable drawer controls. The plugin kit’s card and tab styles use the same underlying recipes, and Calendar and Dues adopt the shared presentation.

A clearer introduction to Meith

meith.dev now leads with “Built for communities. Owned by them.”

A new Who it’s for section introduces Meith to developers, open-source projects, community organisers, clubs and associations, and existing MyBB/phpBB boards. The developer page brings together the technical detail and measured performance budgets. Existing /for links redirect to the new pages.

An About page explains why Meith exists, its approach to ownership and permanence, and the origin of its name in meitheal. The site also gains a mobile header menu.

Upgrading

Upgrade through your normal deployment workflow; this release requires no database migration or new configuration.

THEME_API_VERSION remains at 0.24. Custom theme authors should account for two panel-navigation changes:

  • PanelNavSectionModel.children now includes destinations in closed sections, allowing mobile menus to expand them without navigating first. Desktop rails should continue using isOpen to decide which children to display.
  • Custom headers using the shared mobile panel navigation should include MobileHeaderNav, with its localized copy, even when the board navigation list is empty.

The theme documentation covers the shared components and header integration.
