Greta
Greta is experimental. She is Flotilla's built-in helper for questions about the app, your containers and the pages you are on. Her answers can be wrong. Check anything she suggests before you run it. Every place she appears says so in a banner at the top.
She uses Apple's on-device model, so what you type stays on this Mac. She reads and drafts. She never runs or changes anything for you.
- Ask Greta in the sidebar opens her page.
- ⌘G, or View ▸ Ask Greta, floats her over whichever page or form you are on. Press it again to hide her. A form stays where it is.
- Settings ▸ Greta has Turn on Greta and Greta's look. If Greta can't run on this Mac, it says why.
Conversations are rows. Each has Pin, Rename, Duplicate, Archive and Delete. The message field is a rounded capsule, like Messages.
The microphone button in the message field dictates into it. The shortcut is ⇧⌘D, also in the View menu as Dictate to Greta and Stop Dictating.
- Speech stays on this Mac. It is recognised by Apple's on-device speech model. There is no fallback that could use a server.
- Nothing is sent until you press Send. Dictated words go at the end of what you typed. They are treated like typed words.
- The first time, macOS asks for microphone access. If you refuse, Greta says so and offers a button that opens System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Microphone. Flotilla never changes that setting itself.
- A one-time download. If your language's speech model isn't installed, Greta says so and offers Download. It comes from Apple, once, and only when you click the button.
- A language Apple's speech recognition doesn't offer on this Mac turns the button off. Its tooltip says why. Flotilla never swaps in another language.
- Listening stops when you click again, press Esc, press Send, type, switch to another window, close Greta, or say nothing for 60 seconds.
Flotilla — a native macOS app for Apple's container CLI. A personal project, free to use, Apache-2.0. No account, no telemetry.
