Rouen + HQPWeb v1.9.71
A hotfix of 1.9.70: track lengths on every album screen, and the Shelf's album view in the library's three columns on a landscape screen. The test builds' entries below (t1, t2) have the detail.
Changed
- The Shelf's album view is the library's three columns on a landscape screen (t2): on a desktop, a TV or a tablet on its side, the cover, the title, the buttons, the credits and More by down the left, About this album in the middle, the tracks with their lengths at the right — the same columns, widths and cover as the library's album view. A phone and any portrait screen keep the Shelf's own view.
- Track lengths on every album screen (t1, t2): the library's album view, the Shelf's and a TIDAL or Qobuz
album's page, from your server through native mode, joined to Roon's own track list by title and then by place. - Credits on the Shelf's album view (t1), as on the library's.
Fixed
- An album your server sent again, or added after a failed library read, was never found for its track lengths
or its server credits (t1).
Rouen + HQPWeb v1.9.70
Added
- Credits on every album's page (t1, t2): who played and sang on it, who wrote it, who made the record, each with
a round picture and their parts. From your Roon server with native mode on, your files' tags, MusicBrainz and the
album's Wikipedia article, merged. On a desktop and a TV, two rows of four, then More (t12). - A band's members now, on its artist page (t1, t2): Wikipedia first, then MusicBrainz.
- Track lengths on the album view (t14), from your server through native mode; none with native mode off.
- Artists (t6): every album artist in your library, A to Z, each with a round picture.
- The Shelf's Formats and Favourites tabs (t5, t7): your albums by format and resolution as Mandarin names them
("24/96", "DSD64 2CH", "MP3"), and the albums hearted in Roon. Genres can be sorted by count, A → Z or Z → A. - A read-only probe of what full native mode will read (t3, t4), run by hand:
/api/debug/roon-native-reads.
Changed
- The album view in three columns on a landscape screen at least 1000px wide and 600px tall (t10, t12): the cover,
the buttons and the credits at the left, About this album in the middle, the tracks at the right, each scrolling on
its own. On a desktop and a TV the middle column is narrower and the cover no taller than a third of the screen; a
tablet keeps its widths. A phone and any portrait screen keep the album view as it was. Now playing is unchanged. - The touch bar (t6): Home · Library · Artists · Shelf · Search; the menu (☰) is at the top left of Home.
- The Shelf's choices (t7, t8): two even rows of tabs, every tile's title in the middle, no word broken across
lines.
Fixed
- The Shelf's Genres were empty with native mode on (t7): your server sends an album's genres in a form the fake
server didn't; both are read now. - Rouen on iOS 13 or older (t11): the album view's file used a call those versions lack, and the app failed as it
started. - No debug answer shows your Roon account, a streaming service's sign-in name or your home's address (t9, t13).
Rouen + HQPWeb v1.9.69
The stable release of 1.9.69-t1, for testing across users' own devices: the
Shelf on a phone, with its choices full screen and the catalogue number on
every spine. The test build's entry below has the detail.
Changed
- On a phone the Shelf's choices open full screen (t1): Genres, Artists,
Years, Labels, Types and Order cover the screen, and Show N albums at
their foot takes them away. A phone opens on the shelf. A tablet or a
computer keeps the side pull-out. - The catalogue number is on the spine on a phone too (t1), at its foot as
on a tablet.

More improvements for the Shelf
Rouen + HQPWeb v1.9.67
Added
- A native Windows build (t7). Every release now carries
Rouen-vX.Y.Z-windows-x64.exe: one file, no Docker and no Node.js to
install. Run it and it unpacks itself into%LOCALAPPDATA%\Rouen\app,
opens http://localhost:3399/, and runs Rouen in its console window. It is
offered every release when every other install is, and installs it with
the same one tap. The file is not code-signed: Windows warns once (More
info → Run anyway). - Browse by label and catalogue number, and by kind of release (t1): read
from your files' tags, on the Shelf (spines, the back of a case, Labels and
Types tabs, Order by label and catalogue №) and in the Library (Focus by
Album type, Sort by Label & catalogue №, the album page). - Catalogue numbers from Discogs for the albums whose tags give none (t2),
and from your server with native mode on (t3, t4), each fact taken from
the best source that has it — never above a tag you wrote. - An album may be of several kinds at once (t4): an album and live, say.
- The Shelf's album view (t5): a tap on the case in front turns it into a
full-screen album view with every track; Order: By catalogue № across
every label. - Catalogue numbers and kinds on the Native mode status board (t6), and
/api/debug/release-facts, a debug read of a random hundred albums' numbers
and kinds from every source (t8).
Fixed
- The updater unpacked a downloaded build through a shell, which cuts a path
with a space in it in two — every Windows install under a two-word user
name would have failed every update (t7). - The Discogs pass's circuit breaker counts failed requests again, so a dead
token no longer costs a full pass of silent misses (t2).
Changed
- The catalogue number on a spine is pinned to its foot, and not shown on a
screen narrower than a tablet (t6). The back of a case keeps the album's
name, facts and barcode; its track list is now the album view (t5). - The updater unpacks a build without holding the server (t7).
- Code moved out of the largest files into modules of their own, with nothing
changed in what it does (the Discogs calls and pass, Smart Picks' and the
Wall Display's settings routes, the Shelf's side panes, the launcher's
apply step, the scan log's download, and others).
Rouen + HQPWeb v1.9.66
The stable release of the 1.9.66 test builds (1.9.66-t1 to 1.9.66-t16):
your zones' settings, DSP and Parametric EQ, and Edit for Roon's smart
playlists, all through your server itself with native mode on. Each test
build's own entry below has the detail.
Added
- Edit any of Roon's smart playlists from Rouen (t16). Open one under
Dynamic Playlists and tap Edit: Rouen's Focus editor opens on it as Roon
holds it, and Save sends it back to Roon, renamed too if you like.
Anything the editor can't show whole, or Roon can't hold, is refused
with the reason; a playlist changed in Roon after you opened it isn't
overwritten. - Zone settings in the zone sheet (t6, t7): crossfade, volume levelling
and its target loudness, and the sleep timer, read from your server and
changed there. Each change shows only once your server holds it. - DSP, in a window of its own (t9, t10, t12): every DSP item of the
zone's outputs, as MUSE names them, each on or off; and the settings of
Headroom management, Crossfeed and Sample rate conversion. - Parametric EQ (t14, t15): each band's gain, frequency and Q, and each
band on or off, read fresh from your server before and after every change. - The probes and the recorder behind these (t1, t3, t4, t5, t8, t11,
t13), run by hand from/api/debug/roon-zones.
Fixed
- A zone or output setting put back to its default, and a DSP item turned
off, could stay showing as they were (t6, t9). Your server sends them
whole and leaves out what is at its default; Rouen now reads them so. - Shelf, Spines look: other albums' spines showed through a case turning
during a swipe (t2). - "A probe is already running" when the browser asked twice (t13).
Changed
- Shelf: no album details under the shelf, bigger cases, and tracks chosen
on the back of a case are played from the bar (t2). - Test builds are numbered
X.Y.Z-tN; the in-app updater offers a test
install the stable release when it lands (t2). - Code moved out of the largest files into modules of their own, with
nothing changed in what it does (the Shelf page, the wall display).
Rouen + HQPWeb v1.9.65
Rouen - v1.9.31 EA31
Introducing Native Mode - EA31
Warning
Native mode is an unofficial development. Rouen is not affiliated with Roon Labs, and native mode is not made, endorsed or supported by them.
Native mode talks to your server through its private protocol, the one your server's own apps use, by way of Arthur Soares' reverse-engineering project. which its makers allow for tinkering with your own system. Their CTO, Brian Luczkiewicz, on that protocol: it is "not hardened for 3rd party use", it can change with any server update, and misuse can cause memory or compute leaks in your server.
Read Arthur's thread on the community forum before you use it.
Use it entirely at your own risk. Rouen comes without any warranty, see the licence. If your server misbehaves, turn native mode off and restart your server. Report problems here and not on here.
Keep port 9332 on your own network, never forward it to the internet. A server update can break native mode until Rouen is updated. With native mode switched off (the switch below) only the official extension API is used.
Native mode (experimental)
Your library is your server's own album list, each album with the source your server gives it: the Source counts in Focus and the source icon on album tiles, straight from your server.
