Scope of Responsibility, Expectations and Requirements

Approved April 4, 2006

This is a statement of the scope of responsibility and expectations for the members of the to which each member must agree upon acceptance to a seat on the Board.

  1. Makes a serious commitment to meet the of the [insert link to statement]
  1. Participates actively in the work of the to maintain and promote the Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard schema and its related schema including the METS Profile schema.
  2. Regularly attends face to face meetings including some or all of those associated with the Digital Library Federation Forums, and intervening conference calls.
  3. Prepares for meetings, stays informed about committee and work group activities, and reviews and comments upon meeting notes, committee and work group reports, and and METS listserv communications as appropriate.
  4. Gets to know other Board members and builds collegial relationships among Board members that contribute to informed and congenial decisionmaking.
  5. Exercises professional judgment about changes to the METS and METS related schemas, and the impacts of changes upon current implementations as known by personal experience or by input from other METS implementors.
  6. Participates in committee or work group activities, educational training events and other METS promotional and fundraising activities.
  7. Commits to a 3 year term of appointment with the possibility of renewal.
Board Member requirements:

  1. Knowledge of XML
  2. Experience using METS in home institution /organization or active involvement in planning for the use of METS in home institution /organization.
  3. Some knowledge of related external metadata schemas or other packaging or transport schemas.
  4. Ability to commit or receive some home institutional support for travel to meetings and time spent on Board activities.
