Microsoft PowerToys version

0.81.1

Installation method

PowerToys auto-update

Running as admin

Yes

Area(s) with issue?

PowerToys Run

Steps to reproduce

image

From the screenshot, it can be seen t the part below, which creates a very strong sense of fragmentation.
Restarting cannot fix this problem.

✔️ Expected Behavior

‌‌‌‌‌‌The overall background should be a uniform acrylic or mica. If it's mica, it's preferred that the saturation be reduced somewhat.

❌ Actual Behavior

No response

Other Software

In my case it does not use Mica anywhere in the UI.

I noticed that the update announcement has speculation that this might be intentional... However, I believe the majority would think it's not even as good as making the entire window opaque. The aesthetics of PowerToys Run has always been the reason why I am willing to use it, but this change really isn't very pleasing to the eye.

It was indeed intentional, in order to "fix" a different issue:

Setting the background of the search bar to fix #30206
The title bar accent would bleed if the option to "Show accent color on title bars and windows borders" is enabled on Windows

@Fefedu973 "Pardon your French" 😉

Then please set all windows to be opaque... I have been relying on another bug using PTRUN -- After enabling PTRUN for a while, the mica will automatically become ineffective. Once this bug takes effect, the whole window becomes aesthetically pleasing.

@Jay-o-Way Is it also related to this? Run has not Mica effect since last year, at least in my case.

I believe the mica effect failing is a very different issue, also within the WPF-UI framework.
@niels9001 Maybe these are arguments not to use WPF-UI

But if this is intentional will it be fixed? I don't like this change and I'm not the only one. I hope it could be reverted 🤞

Noted. Just keep in mind that there are many issues with a higher priority.

I have same, but inverted (?) issue.
That's how UI looks after start:
image

And that's how UI looks after turning on/off almost any "Personalization - Colors" toggle, like "Transparency effects" or "Show accent color on title bars and windows borders":
image

So every time I restart my computer, I have to go into settings and toggle some setting on and off to get the appearance fixed.
Idk where this "blue" color comes from, I have default dark theme with manual accent color set to dark grey.

I suspect this might be from the colors on your desktop background, since we switched the theme to Mica to try to fix an exception.

The situation on my end is that after booting up and doing nothing but using it normally for a while, the mica will fail. It consistently reproduces with the latest version.

Hey all. This issue (including the failing mica) is a known issue and comes from the WPF-UI framework. The cause is not in our hands, we can only try to work around it. FYI @lepoco

Thanks @Jay-o-Way for the clarification and thank @lepoco for helping with this.

Hey, it looks like Mica finally started working properly, but the textbox search has a background (just not opaque).
I think that setting the search background to transparent should make Mica visible behind it nicely.

Mica fix: lepoco/wpfui#1094
Titlebar fix: lepoco/wpfui#1122

@niels9001 @jaimecbernardo I suppose we need to keep a close eye on lepoco/wpfui#1107 (4.0 RC) then!
