baseUrl

In old versions of TypeScript, baseUrl was required in order to use paths. This is no longer the case, and in many projects you can simply remove baseUrl (especially if it's .).

Otherwise, prepend the baseUrl value to each paths entry. A script to help doing this can be found at https://github.com/andrewbranch/ts-fix-baseurl

rootDir

What changed? In 6.0, rootDir, when unspecified, now defaults to the directory containing the tsconfig, rather than being inferred from the common root of discovered files. If this is correct, no further action is needed. If this is wrong, set rootDir (and include, if needed)

Common symptom: files out the output directory are nested by a new level, often with src/

What changed? In prior versions of TypeScript, TS would include everything in node_modules/@types, which was slow and often pulled in unrelated files. In 6.0, this behavior has been removed.

Modules which are imported via their names (e.g. import _ from 'lodash') will still automatically be resolved, but libraries like Node and Jest which either only create global variables or present modules that aren't the same as the package name will not be present automatically.

The most common fix required is to add this to "compilerOptions":

    "types": ["node"],
