Python installation not recognized

Issue Type: Bug

Python is installed and added to the path, but I get the error "Python is not installed. Please download and install Python before using the extension."
I've tried restarting and reinstalling without success. Adding the python path manually in the settings also yields no results.
Steps to reproduce:
Install the latest python version not for all users (~\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python37-32) and leave the other settings as default. Then open a .py file in VS Code.

Thanks for the report @Jonathan-7, could you fill in a few more details for us?

Can you run your python code in the terminal, outside of VSCode?

Adding the python path manually in the settings also yields no results.

Which setting did you specifically set, and what did you set it to exactly?

Did you specify a python interpreter in the VSCode status bar?

Thanks for your reply @d3r3kk Since the interpreter wasn't being picked up automatically I set it to:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python37-32\python.exe
I tried doing it on the bottom left like in your image and also on the settings:

Please could change the path as follows: C:/Users/username/AppData/Local/Programs/Python/Python37-32/python.exe
Either use / forward slashes or \\ two back slashes instead of \

I tried with the forward slashes path and reloading the extension but I still get the same error message

Right click > Run Python File in Terminal is working

Do you have PYTHONWARNINGS defined in your env variables (see here #3535 (comment)).
Please could you try running the code in your terminal:

I tried showing environment variables in powershell and there were none with python:
