BrainNet Viewer 2.0.0

BrainNet Viewer 2.0.0 provides MATLAB Desktop, Python Desktop and Docker/Web editions for visualizing brain surfaces, networks, volumetric maps and atlas regions. All three editions include a shared English manual and illustrated tutorials.

The MATLAB edition uses the updated interface and reads supported NIfTI and GIFTI files without SPM. Python Desktop runs independently of MATLAB. Docker/Web runs locally or on a Linux server, with a separate process for each browser session, HTTPS and authentication for LAN deployment, and automatic CPU fallback when GPU rendering is unavailable.

MATLAB colorbars now match the displayed edge colors when mapped weights are constant.

This release adds updated atlas network examples, more colormaps, figure annotations and improved interaction, window resizing and export recovery. Recent fixes improve MATLAB transparent PNG export and physical-unit sizing, Linux desktop file access and dialog focus, and CPU and memory reporting. MATLAB can read local inputs directly and save either file references or a portable Scene ZIP.

Downloads and installation

  • MATLAB: BrainNet-Viewer-MATLAB-2.0.0.zip
  • Python Desktop: BrainNet-Viewer-Python-2.0.0.zip (Python 3.11 or newer)
  • Docker/Web: BrainNet-Viewer-Web-2.0.0.zip
  • Python wheel: brainnet_viewer-2.0.0-py3-none-any.whl

Check the files against SHA256SUMS, then follow the installation instructions included with your edition. Docker images are available from mingruixia/brainnet-viewer; the Web package includes local and Linux LAN deployment instructions. The default browser port is 1031.

Compatibility notes

Use PNG for exact-size export on the affected MATLAB R2024a PDF/SVG path. Portable Scenes should be opened in the edition that created them; cross-edition migration has not been verified. ARM64 container installation and application contents have been checked, but native ARM64 container graphics validation remains incomplete. GPU allocation alone does not establish that rendering uses the GPU.
