@minimalice92 minimalice92 released this 29 Oct 02:48

0.2.4: warm-up fixes (from a code review of 0.2.3's new graphics warm-up):

  • The one-time "Preparing graphics" step now stays hidden even if your settings say fullscreen (before, its scenes could take over the screen).
  • It ignores advanced switches from your own settings, so they can't stall it or prepare the wrong effects.
  • Original's warm-up scenes run one at a time, so they never share the game's save files at once.
  • The shader counts it reports are now exact, and a problem saving the install record afterwards no longer reports a failed install when the game is fine.

Nothing in the game itself changed. Everything from 0.2.3 is included: the warm-up, the build fix for newer Microsoft build tools, the presets, and 17 original bugs fixed.

Installing: run the installer, point it at your own copy of the disc, and it builds the game for you (about 20 minutes, about 2.6 GB free). It contains nothing from the game. Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" because the installer isn't code-signed: choose More info, then Run anyway. If you're updating, uninstall the old version first (your saves are kept).

⚠️ Known issues in 0.2.4

  • Reinstalling: after uninstalling, Setup may refuse to install into the same folder again. Choose a new, empty folder instead.
  • Accented letters in your Windows user name (for example C:\Users\José): the launcher may fail to save settings or start the game.
    Both will be fixed in 0.2.5, planned for November 3.

0.2.3: smooth from the first second. The game turns its graphics effects into GPU shaders the first time each one appears, which used to cause short hitches early in your first play. The installer now does that once, at the end of the install: "Preparing graphics (one time)" runs the game hidden through a few scenes for about 2 minutes. In testing from an empty cache, 7 of 8 test plays then compiled nothing during play (the 8th compiled one rare effect, in 9 ms). If anything goes wrong in this step, it's skipped and the install still finishes.

Everything from 0.2.2 is included: the build fix for newer Microsoft build tools, the presets, and 17 original bugs fixed.

Installing: run the installer, point it at your own copy of the disc, and it builds the game for you (about 20 minutes, about 2.6 GB free). It contains nothing from the game. Blood Wake Recomp 0.2.2

@minimalice92 minimalice92 released this 29 Oct 00:47

0.2.2: build fix. On newer Microsoft build tools, the final step of the build could stop with error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol fabsf referenced in function flash_watch. One of our source files used a maths function without including its header; some toolsets forgive that, newer ones don't. It's fixed, and the build now treats any such slip as an error, so it can't come back (three more were found and fixed the same way). Nothing changes in the game itself. Thanks to the first community bug report!

If 0.2.1 failed for you with that error, uninstall it (your saves are kept) and run this installer.

Everything from 0.2.1 is included (the presets, and the 17th original bug fixed: the faint dark streaks on folded waves).

Installing: run the installer, point it at your own copy of the disc, and it builds the game for you (about 15 minutes, about 2.6 GB free). It contains nothing from the game. Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" because the installer isn't code-signed: choose More info, then Run anyway.

Blood Wake Recomp 0.2.1

@minimalice92 minimalice92 released this 29 Oct 00:21

New in 0.2.1: the 17th original bug fixed. In Remastered, the sea no longer shows faint dark streaks where waves fold over at a shallow angle (most visible on distant water at night). The 2001 game blended its sky reflection twice on those pixels; Remastered now draws it once. Nothing else in the picture changes, and it costs about 0.1 ms a frame. It's on by default; Original keeps the game exactly as shipped, and the launcher's Fixes tab has an "As shipped" switch.

Everything from 0.2.0 is included (the Best Quality / Balanced and Original / Best Performance presets). Existing saves and settings are kept when you update.

Installing: run the installer, point it at your own copy of the disc, and it builds the game for you (about 15 minutes, about 2.6 GB free). It contains nothing from the game. Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" because the installer isn't code-signed: choose More info, then Run anyway.

Blood Wake Recomp 0.2.0

@minimalice92 minimalice92 released this 28 Oct 22:42

New in 0.2.0: launcher presets. Remastered now has three presets on the launcher's Edition tab, and Best Quality is the default for new installs:

  • Best Quality: a modern game on max settings: every upgrade and extra on (8x anti-aliasing, 16x texture filtering, the farthest detail distance, texture restoration, gentle ambient occlusion, bloom and sharpening), tuned so nothing overlaps.
  • Balanced and Original: the original game true to form, looking its best on a modern screen, with none of the extras that change the look.
  • Best Performance: for a slower PC: the cheapest settings that keep the essentials (widescreen, a high frame rate, light anti-aliasing).

Change any single setting afterwards and the preset shows Custom. HDR and OLED care are never changed by a preset. Existing settings are kept when you update.

Also new: the README is a proper showcase now, with 4K screenshots.

Installing: run the installer, point it at your own copy of the disc, and it builds the game for you (about 15 minutes, about 2.6 GB free). It contains nothing from the game. Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" because the installer isn't code-signed: choose More info, then Run anyway.

Blood Wake Recomp 0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@minimalice92 minimalice92 released this 28 Oct 13:43

First public version of Blood Wake Recomp: build and play Blood Wake (Xbox, 2001) natively on Windows, from your own copy of the game.

What's in the installer: only this repository's own files (the build scripts, the launcher, the installer and uninstaller). It contains nothing from the game. It asks for your disc copy (a folder, an XISO or a full disc image), checks it's an unmodified retail copy, then translates and compiles the game on your PC with Microsoft's build tools. It downloads only what's missing, from the official sites, each file checked against a pinned hash.

  • Two editions: Original (exactly as shipped) and Remastered (widescreen, high frame rate, native resolution, a modern visual suite, cleaner sound, the original game's bugs fixed; the original art and sound throughout). Details in the README.
  • Per-user install, no administrator rights except for the one step that installs Microsoft's build tools if you don't have them.
  • The build takes about 15 minutes and about 2.6 GB of free space.
  • The uninstaller keeps your saves and settings unless you choose otherwise.

Windows may warn you: the installer isn't code-signed, so SmartScreen may say "Windows protected your PC". Choose More info, then Run anyway.
