It would be helpful to be able to focus the library search box by mapping a control object to a controller button press. This would allow users to press a button on their controller and start typing to search without having to use their mouse.

Can`t you just use CTRL+F before typing the search term on your keyboard?
No need to use the mouse.

Yeah, that works. So I guess the problem is that isn't indicated anywhere in the GUI so I didn't know that hotkey existed. Perhaps adding an item to the Library dropdown menu that says "Search" along with the Ctrl+F hotkey would help.

Where to stop?
* We have the SEARCH bar prominently displayed in the library.
* We have a CTRL+F key combination to invoke search that is universal to many other maps
* We have the keyboard mapping table <http://mixxx.org/manual/1.12/chapters/appendix.html#keyboard-mapping-table> in the manual with all shortcuts, three of them for the search bar alone
And you still haven’t found what you looking for as an experienced user :)

To provide kinda context related help what about:

  • Add a tooltip to the search input field
  • Add a link for the online keyboard mapping table ( dubbed Keyboard shortcuts) in the Help menu
(iirc there is already a separate request for that on the bug tracker)

for the record I had no idea that ctrl-f put focus on the search box :). But I'm not sure the menu item is the right answer, it would be easy to select it and not see the change in the UI. I think a tooltip for the search box is the right solution.

Both of those suggestions seem like good ideas to me.

The Ctrl+Backspace description is incorrect. Ctrl+Backspace deletes words rather than clears the whole box.
