Nightly build 20261030 (build 8)

What is new in this build:

1. The "Synced lyrics" status text is gone from the top bar, the Library list and the song sheet. The highlighted line already shows whether a song is time synced.

Everything from the earlier builds is included: Android Auto lyrics screen, the single home screen with the seek bar, queue and cover colors, the restyled Settings and Library, the in app updater and the new logo.

Update in place: Settings, then App updates, then Check for updates. The same signing key is used, so you can also install this APK over any build from 20261029 onward.

What is new in this build:

1. Android Auto now opens. In every earlier build the car screen failed with "CarLyrics has encountered an unexpected error", because a required setting sat in the wrong place in the manifest. This build fixes it.
2. New Android Auto screen: the song and artist on top, the line being sung large and white with the lines around it dimmed, over a background in the cover's colors. The screen is drawn by the app itself, so Android Auto keeps the media card (Spotify and others) visible next to it. Previous, play or pause, and next buttons are in the top corner and appear when you touch the screen.
3. The Android Auto screen keeps its text inside the area the car never covers, and draws its buttons from bitmaps so they cannot come out as the wrong icon after an update.

Notes:

1. Android Auto shows one navigation style app at a time, so CarLyrics and Maps share the main pane: you choose which one fills it. Maps keeps running behind it.
2. Tested through Open Headunit on a phone running Android Auto 17.3, not yet in a real car.

What is new in this build:

1. New logo: a green speech bubble with a music note on a dark tile. It also has a themed version for Android 13 and newer.
2. Smoother backdrop: the home screen background is now a gradient painted from the colors of the album cover, with a soft glow of the second color. The old stretched picture looked blocky; this cannot.
3. Queue: players that share their play queue get a queue button next to the controls. It opens an Up next list, and tapping a song skips to it. If your player does not share a queue, the button does not appear.
4. Redesigned Settings: grouped panels with icons, a saved song count, a link to the source code, and a confirmation before clearing saved lyrics.
5. Redesigned Library: colored letter tiles, and tapping a song opens a sheet with its lyrics, a Share .lrc button and a Delete button. Clearing everything now asks first.

What is new in this build:

1. Seek bar: the home screen now shows how far into the song you are, with elapsed and total time. Drag it or tap it to jump to any point, and the lyrics jump with it.
2. Album artwork backdrop: the cover art of the song that is playing is softened and shown behind the lyrics, and fades to the next cover when the song changes. A dark layer keeps the lyrics readable on bright covers.
3. The app now draws edge to edge, so the artwork fills the whole screen, including behind the status bar and navigation bar.

Everything from the earlier builds is included: the single home screen, the fix for lyrics that stopped moving in builds 1 to 3, the restyled Settings and Library, the in app updater, music apps only, battery saving idle sleep, Spotify title fixes and the Android Auto fixes.

If a music app shares its cover as a web address instead of an embedded image, no backdrop is shown for it.

What is new in this build:

1. One screen instead of two: the synced lyrics now live on the home screen. The song and artist sit at the top with the Library and Settings buttons, the lyrics follow the song in the middle, and play or pause, previous and next are at the bottom. Notification access and update messages show up at the top only when needed.
2. Fixes a bug in builds 1 to 3 of this day where the highlighted lyric line stopped moving while a song played. Please update.
3. The Fetch lyrics automatically setting is now respected. When it is off, a Fetch lyrics button appears instead.

What is new in this build:

1. Settings and the Lyrics Library now match the new design: flat rows on black, no boxed cards, one set of text sizes, and a calmer search field. The library shows a Synced tag per song and a clearer empty state.
2. Buttons no longer have stretched letter spacing.

What is new in this build:

1. New home screen: a large now playing block with a Playing or Paused status, one green Open synced lyrics button, and a short lyrics preview. The old boxed cards are gone.
2. The earlier build only had the new full screen lyrics view; this one makes the whole app match it.
3. The updater can now tell two builds from the same day apart, so build 2 and later show up as updates.

Everything from the previous nightly is included: the synced lyrics view, the in app updater, music apps only, battery saving idle sleep, Spotify title fixes and the Android Auto fixes.

Install over the previous nightly (it uses the same signing key). If you still have an older build installed, you may need to install this APK by hand once, because only builds from 20261030 onward carry the updater.

What is new in this build:

1. New lyrics screen: large lines with the current one bright and the rest dimmed, smooth following, a Sync to song button after you scroll away, and tap a line to seek the player.
2. In app updater: Settings has an App section that checks GitHub for newer builds, downloads them, verifies the checksum and installs. A banner shows on the home screen when an update is ready.
3. Saves battery: the lyrics engine now runs inside the notification listener, there is no foreground service, nothing runs while no music plays, and the status bar lyric goes away after 2 minutes of silence.
4. Only music apps are followed (Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music and others). The YouTube video app and other video apps are ignored.
5. Spotify titles such as Song (Remastered) and multi artist credits now find lyrics, and ad breaks are skipped.
6. Android Auto fixes: the lyrics screen now receives live updates and only redraws when the line changes. This is not yet tested on a real car.

Install over the previous nightly signed with the same key (nightly 20261029 or later). Older builds must be uninstalled first.

What is new in this build:

1. Lyrics now follow the real Spotify playback position (read from the media session), so seeking, pausing and opening the app mid song stay in sync.
2. Companion View controls (play, pause, skip, seek) now control the player, and the play button shows the real state.
3. Spotify titles like "Song - Remastered 2011" and multi artist credits now find lyrics, and ad breaks are ignored.
4. The app asks for notification permission on Android 13 and newer, and keeps running in the background after you close it.

Important: this build is signed with a new key. If you have an earlier CarLyrics installed, uninstall it first, then install this APK.

Install: download the APK and sideload it (Settings, Install unknown apps), then grant notification access to CarLyrics.
