Hey,

You're correct that under V8 and those JavaScript runtimes that have the nonstandard __proto__ property, merging may end up iterating over prototypes. I wrote a criticism of such JavaScript runtimes in https://github.com/moll/js-oolong#-warning-about-__proto__ and provide a global fix that doesn't rely on the non-sustainable solution of special handing in every piece of iterating code.
