The markdown you write now looks like the markdown Claude renders. Headings, list indents, inline code, code blocks, table rules and the horizontal rule were measured in a real Claude conversation and matched — sizes, spacing and colours. Your files do not change. This is what the editor draws, not what it writes.

Headings, lists and code

  • Headings are 1.375 / 1.125 / 1.0 / 1.0 / 0.875 / 0.875 em at weight 600, with 1.5 em of air above an h1 or h2, 1.25 em above the rest and 0.5 em below. A heading now sits with the text it introduces.
  • Lists indent 2 em. Numbers and bullets start in the same column, and every number in a list lines up — the indentation guide beside a numbered list used to wander by up to 9 px from row to row.
  • Inline code is a chip: rounded, padded, a hairline border, a 5 % ink background and its own colour. It used to be a square grey band in the body colour.
  • Code blocks have a hairline border, 14 px of side padding and a 1.625 line height. A wrapped line inside a block keeps the block's own line pitch — it used to open up more than the lines around it.
  • Maths is a step larger than the body text, KaTeX's own proportion.

Colour

  • Table rules and the horizontal rule each have their own tone: the rule under a table's first row is the darkest, the rules between later rows are lighter, and the horizontal rule is lighter still. All three are stronger than before.
  • Checkboxes and quotation bars are grey, not blue. A checked box is a grey fill with a white tick; a quotation's bar is a 4 px hairline.
  • Bullets and numbers are one tone — numbers used to be a step paler than bullets.

Applying a mark again takes it off

  • Bold, italic, strikethrough, highlight, inline code and maths now toggle. With the caret inside **bold**, pressing Ctrl+B removes the mark instead of adding a second pair inside the first.
  • A selection that starts inside a mark and ends outside it marks only the part that was outside.
  • Bullets, numbers, tasks, quotations and headings follow the same rule, and a line that is already that kind is left alone, so numbering does not restart.

Text stays where you put it

  • Spaces at the start of a paragraph are text. One or two spaces of indent used to disappear when the caret left the paragraph, moving the line sideways — and, on a line sitting at a wrap boundary, moving every paragraph below it down.
  • The caret reaches the right-hand end of a long first line in a code block. The copy glyph's hit area overhung the first line of code by 11 px, so clicking there copied the block instead of placing the caret.
  • A long quotation keeps its indent when it wraps. The second line used to return to the left edge of the paper, outside its own bar.
  • 11. is a numbered list. Picking a numbering up under a line of text worked from 1 to 10 and stopped.
  • Opening the file rail at the top of a document no longer moves the text. It slid down by about 156 px.

The first window is bigger

  • A new install opens at 80 % of the screen's height instead of 66 % — 922 × 864 on a 1920 × 1080 screen, where it was 760 × 712. The shape is unchanged.
  • A window you never resized moves to the new default once. A size you chose yourself, and a maximised window, stay as they are.

Windows

  • The Windows app gets all of the above. Five of them are drawn by the shell rather than shared code, and had been on Linux only: heading baselines, wrapped quotations, the numbered-list column, wrapped lines in code blocks, and the viewport at the top of a document.
  • It is on the Microsoft Store; the Store installs the update.

Not taken from Claude's rendering: tables and images, where mori already does more, and the body line height, which was settled separately.

Install

  • Ubuntu 22.04+ / Debian 12+: sudo apt install ./mori_1.0.3_amd64.deb, or the apt repository (https://get.motemd.com) — the .deb carries its own GTK under /opt/mori
  • Any distribution with Flatpak: flatpak install --from https://get.motemd.com/flatpak/mori-stable.flatpakref, or flatpak install ./mori-1.0.3-x86_64.flatpak (both register mori's own repository, so flatpak update keeps it current)
  • Ubuntu 22.04+ and any glibc 2.35+ distribution: the AppImage, or curl -fsSL https://get.motemd.com/install.sh | sh
