MSI and Debian packages below are alternatives. The JSON manifests, checksum file and source archives are for verification/development; they are not apps.

This is an experimental unsigned release candidate. Windows signing has been applied for and is awaiting review. Mac builds are ad-hoc signed and are not notarized. Platform security warnings may appear; no automatic updater is configured.

Fixes in this update

  • Reopened meetings keep their original recording association and transcript timing. Older transcript-only backups reconnect by passage IDs where a unique original recording can be identified.
  • Live transcription has a bounded backlog and request deadlines. A slow provider cannot leave Stop waiting indefinitely for transcription; warnings identify missing passages while local recording remains available for review.
  • Assistant edits update the managed Markdown file, and report conflicts without overwriting external edits.
  • Relinking or detaching a note clears its previous meeting association. Moving a linked note moves its recording, captions and transcript together.
  • Delayed local-file imports target the original tab and refuse to overwrite text changed while the file was opening.
  • Notebook keyboard navigation/focus, narrow library columns and short meeting-window controls are improved.

Verification and limits

Built from commit 85e43e524b0a2790f105e4063ae151f5a0f3cac1. Frontend CI passed all 1,456 tests, backend and protocol CI passed, and every desktop matrix job completed successfully. The installed Windows app upgraded from RC3 to RC4 with exit code 0; its sidecar matches the CI hash and all four existing profile files were unchanged before launch. The desktop matrix verifies package extraction, embedded sidecar identity and native startup/shutdown with isolated profiles on Windows, both Mac architectures and Linux. SHA256SUMS.txt covers the downloads and manifests.

Browser component checks verified a 390-pixel library layout and reachable meeting controls at 400 pixels high. These checks do not prove capture accuracy on every device. Physical Mac/Linux installation, microphone/internal-audio capture and long-session acceptance remain outstanding. Linux live capture is unavailable in this candidate; Linux supports notes and review of existing recordings. Folder picking and free-space reporting are currently Windows-only.

ChatGPT account sign-in uses each user's own eligible account and is separate from API-key billing. Model availability and usage limits depend on the provider and account. The retained Antigravity connection is experimental and unsupported for public third-party use under Google's stated policy; successful sign-in does not establish supported access. See AI connections.

Back up your profile/database and library together before upgrading. Personal notes and account tokens are not included in these installers.

@github-actions github-actions released this 16 Oct 07:19

Noter.ai 26.10.16-rc.3 includes the tested desktop AI connection fixes. This is an experimental, unsigned release candidate.

Choose the installer for your computer:

Your computer Download
Windows 64-bit Install Noter.ai — Setup.exe
Mac with Apple Silicon (M-series) Noter.ai for Apple Silicon — .dmg
Mac with Intel processor Noter.ai for Intel Mac — .dmg
Linux 64-bit Noter.ai — AppImage (notes/review preview)

The MSI and Debian packages are alternative installers. JSON manifests, SHA256SUMS.txt and source archives are verification/developer files; you do not need them to install the app.

Updating an existing installation: close Noter.ai and install this version over the existing installation. Do not delete your profile or library. Automatic updates are not enabled, so users of earlier releases must download this installer themselves.

What changed

  • Official desktop installers supply the experimental Google installed-client setup. Users select Sign in with Google and authorize their own account; no manual client ID/secret setup is required.
  • ChatGPT uses a separate account connection and permission for eligible ChatGPT plan usage. OpenAI API keys use separate Platform billing.
  • Connecting an account no longer switches the form back to the previously saved provider when settings refresh.
  • AI connection-check results clear when the account, credentials, capability or model changes. Late responses from an earlier selection cannot mark the new selection as verified.
  • Saved account/model settings survive reopening the app. Refresh models to choose an available model the first time, save it, and use Check AI; daily model detection is not required.

Verified

  • All desktop CI checks passed for source commit fea935132336ce14bf5df980e2541f4c5b58896f.
  • Windows EXE/MSI, Apple Silicon and Intel Mac DMGs, and Linux AppImage/Debian packages were extracted and launched on native runners with isolated profiles. Sidecar identity, startup, SQLite initialization and process cleanup were checked. Installer/manifests hashes were checked again before staging.
  • Local frontend type/lint checks, production build and 1,448 tests passed. All 15 packaging/verifier tests passed.
  • A fresh packaged Windows sidecar completed owner setup, supplied bundled Google setup, contained no personal provider accounts, saved a private test note and retained it after restart.
  • Live development-preview Google and ChatGPT authorization, account models and AI inference passed for the maintainer's test accounts. The RC3 packaged app reused the saved ChatGPT account/model for a real AI request without reconnecting or detecting models; its saved Google connection also loaded the live model catalog.
  • The actual installed Windows app upgraded from RC1 to RC3 successfully. Its existing profile/database/library-configuration files were unchanged, its installed binary matched the verified package, and AI settings remained available in the desktop app.

Limits before a production launch

Windows packages are unsigned. Mac packages are ad-hoc signed and not Apple-notarized. No trusted automatic updater is configured. The maintainer does not yet have the required signing identities.

Linux live microphone/screen capture is unavailable in this candidate; Linux supports notes and review of existing recordings. Mac system-audio capture, hardware permissions and other OS/device combinations still need physical acceptance testing. Folder selection and free-space reporting are currently Windows-only.

Provider eligibility, consent, model availability and usage limits depend on each user's account. Personal account tokens and API keys are not included in installers. Groq and other API-key transcription providers require each user's own key.

Antigravity remains experimental: Google's official FAQ says third-party Antigravity account access is unsupported. Successful sign-in does not make this an officially approved public integration.

Read the current release status and remaining meeting/note issues. This candidate is not a production-readiness sign-off.

Code signing policy: Noter.ai code signing policy. Windows signing through SignPath Foundation is being prepared and requires eligibility approval; this release remains unsigned. Privacy policy.

Source commit: 0660030edd2e78b416b584892ef6418fc5a80953. All installers were built from this commit after frontend lint/tests and backend regression checks passed.

Known limitations and acceptance checklist: Release status.

Windows x64: NSIS and MSI. macOS: separate Apple Silicon and Intel DMGs. Linux x64: AppImage and Debian package.

Each installer was extracted on its native runner; its embedded Go sidecar version, build metadata and build ID matched the fresh build. Windows/Linux sidecar bytes also matched exactly. macOS uses verified ad-hoc signatures, which can change signature bytes; manifests record both hashes. SHA256SUMS.txt covers installers and manifests.

Each extracted desktop application also launched with an isolated temporary profile, loaded its selected loopback WebView page, served HTTP 200 with Noter.ai frontend HTML, initialized SQLite, and stopped its own sidecar. Linux startup was tested under Xvfb with the normal WebKit sandbox enabled. macOS microphone usage metadata was checked.

This candidate has no trusted publisher signature and is not Apple-notarized. macOS bundles are ad-hoc signed. Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper may require additional review. Automatic updates are not enabled.

Linux live microphone/screen meeting capture is currently unavailable: the native WebKit permission path does not safely constrain every requesting frame, so requests are not automatically granted. Linux can review existing notes/recordings. Other platforms still require physical microphone/internal-audio, permission, playback and installation acceptance tests. Non-Windows folder selection and free-space reporting are not supported yet.

Provider credentials and notes are not included in installers. Configure AI and transcription inside the app; local AI services must be installed separately. Existing profiles and library locations remain on the device.

Antigravity sign-in requires locally supplied NOTER_ANTIGRAVITY_CLIENT_ID and NOTER_ANTIGRAVITY_CLIENT_SECRET for an authorized OAuth client; these are not embedded in public source or installers.

This is an experimental prerelease for testing, not a production-readiness claim.
