Rush 2049 Recompiled v0.1.53
San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled v0.1.53: a ghost's arrow is no longer covered by buildings behind the ghost.
Made with AI. Almost all of the code was written by AI agents (Claude), directed and play-tested by a person.
You need your own ROM of the US release (.z64, SHA-1 3f99351d7bb61656614bdb2aa1a90cfe55d1922c); the launcher finds it by itself in a usual place (the game's folder, Downloads, Desktop, Documents and one level of subfolders), otherwise pick it with Load ROM.
Windows: unzip Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.53-windows-x64.zip and run Rush2049Recompiled.exe from that folder. Linux (x86-64): extract Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.53-linux-x64.tar.gz and run Rush2049Recompiled in that folder (glibc 2.35 or newer, a Vulkan driver, GTK 3 and FreeType). Settings and saves carry over from earlier versions.
Fixed: with Ghost Arrows at Whole (the default), the arrow over a ghost was still covered by scenery behind the ghost, however far away it was: on Track 1 the buildings beside the straight after the Slim Jim sign, and the signal arm on the bridge at its end, cut into the arrows of ghosts in plain view. The game draws the arrows before part of the scenery, and the arrows don't count for what is in front, so that scenery was painted over them. Whole now draws the arrows after all the scenery, each one whole while its tip above the ghost can be seen, and not at all while something in front of it hides the tip. Original draws them as the game did.

Rush 2049 Recompiled v0.1.52
San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled v0.1.52: two-player races no longer freeze or crash a few seconds after the start.
Windows: unzip Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.52-windows-x64.zip and run Rush2049Recompiled.exe from that folder. Linux (x86-64): extract Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.52-linux-x64.tar.gz and run Rush2049Recompiled in that folder (glibc 2.35 or newer, a Vulkan driver, GTK 3 and FreeType). Settings and saves carry over from earlier versions.
Fixed: in a two-player race the picture could freeze for good a few seconds after the start while the sound played on, or the game closed. The game makes the list of everything it draws in a frame in a space of fixed size, and with two views and the settings that draw more, such as Scenery Culling Off, a busy stretch of track filled it and ran over into the next frame's data. That list now has room of its own, four times the size, so a two-player race on Track 2 plays on.
Also: a new icon, one of the launcher's cars on its road.
The README has the controls, every setting, and how to build it yourself.
Rush 2049 Recompiled v0.1.51
San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled v0.1.51: a Mouse Cursor setting that keeps the mouse cursor on screen while you play with a controller.
Windows: unzip Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.51-windows-x64.zip and run Rush2049Recompiled.exe from that folder. Linux (x86-64): extract Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.51-linux-x64.tar.gz and run Rush2049Recompiled in that folder (glibc 2.35 or newer, a Vulkan driver, GTK 3 and FreeType). Settings and saves carry over from earlier versions.
New: Mouse Cursor on the General tab. The cursor hides as soon as a controller or a key is pressed and comes back when the mouse moves; set it to Always Shown and it stays where you left it while you play, to point at things in a recording. Original, the default, hides it as before.

Rush 2049 Recompiled v0.1.50
San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled v0.1.50: Reduced Scenery Culling shows the buildings you look down on, so far less pops in on Track 2.
Windows: unzip Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.50-windows-x64.zip and run Rush2049Recompiled.exe from that folder. Linux (x86-64): extract Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.50-linux-x64.tar.gz and run Rush2049Recompiled in that folder (glibc 2.35 or newer, a Vulkan driver, GTK 3 and FreeType). Settings and saves carry over from earlier versions.
Fixed: with Scenery Culling at Reduced, buildings popped in at a dozen places on Track 2 driven the right way: on the start straight, along the city streets and among the trees near the end. They stand lower than the road, so you look down on them, and their tops are about level with your eyes, which neither of the rules added in v0.1.39 and v0.1.45 let through. Reduced now also draws any building that looks more than a sliver tall from where you are, above you or below, wherever it is in view, so what comes in late is small. Across the attract races on six tracks it draws no more than before, still about a quarter less than Off.
The README has the controls, every setting, and how to build it yourself.
Rush 2049 Recompiled v0.1.49
San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled v0.1.49: two players on the same kind of controller each have their own bindings, and a Nintendo Switch Online N64 controller no longer comes up with A and B swapped.
Windows: unzip Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.49-windows-x64.zip and run Rush2049Recompiled.exe from that folder. Linux (x86-64): extract Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.49-linux-x64.tar.gz and run Rush2049Recompiled in that folder (glibc 2.35 or newer, a Vulkan driver, GTK 3 and FreeType). Settings and saves carry over from earlier versions.
Fixed: with Controllers at Per Player, two players on the same kind of controller shared one set of bindings, so changing one player's on the Controls tab changed the other's too. The game keeps bindings per kind of controller, and two controllers of one kind look the same to it. Now a second player on the same kind of controller gets bindings of their own, starting from the first player's, and so do a third and a fourth; each player's Edit Profile changes only theirs.
Fixed: a Nintendo Switch Online N64 controller that doesn't answer the first thing SDL (the library the game reads controllers through) asks it when it connects shows up as "N64 Controller" instead of "Nintendo N64 Controller", and was then read like a Switch Pro controller, with A and B swapped, and two other buttons with each other too. It now reads the same as one that answered.

Rush 2049 Recompiled v0.1.48
San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled v0.1.48: one-off sounds such as a crash or an explosion play while Rewind is held.
Windows: unzip Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.48-windows-x64.zip and run Rush2049Recompiled.exe from that folder. Linux (x86-64): extract Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.48-linux-x64.tar.gz and run Rush2049Recompiled in that folder (glibc 2.35 or newer, a Vulkan driver, GTK 3 and FreeType). Settings and saves carry over from earlier versions.
Fixed: one-off sounds, such as a crash, an explosion or a landing, play again while Rewind is held, once each as the rewind goes back past them, the way the music plays on. Since v0.1.36, every frame Rewind stepped back ended every sound the race no longer knew about, so the stuck tire squeal and dirt sounds would stop, and that ended these too before they could be heard. Now only the sounds that would otherwise play on are ended, and the engine, squeal, wheel and wall-grind sounds keep playing as in v0.1.46.
The README has the controls, every setting, and how to build it yourself.
Rush 2049 Recompiled v0.1.46
San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled v0.1.46: sound effects keep playing while Rewind is held and after you let go.
Windows: unzip Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.46-windows-x64.zip and run Rush2049Recompiled.exe from that folder. Linux (x86-64): extract Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.46-linux-x64.tar.gz and run Rush2049Recompiled in that folder (glibc 2.35 or newer, a Vulkan driver, GTK 3 and FreeType). Settings and saves carry over from earlier versions.
Fixed: sound effects no longer go silent while Rewind is held, or after you let go. The game keeps each car's ongoing sounds (the engine, the tire squeal, the grass or dirt under the wheels and the grind against a wall) by a number its sound player hands out. Going back to a moment when one of them played gave the race back the number of a sound that had already ended, so it stayed silent until the race would have stopped it itself: the squeal or grind went quiet partway through a rewind, the engine went quiet after rewinding back past a crash, and letting go during a grind left it silent for as long as you stayed on the wall. Every frame Rewind steps back now starts any such sound again, and it plays on through the rest of the rewind and after you let go.
The README has the controls, every setting, and how to build it yourself.
Rush 2049 Recompiled v0.1.45
San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled v0.1.45: Reduced Scenery Culling shows buildings standing high above you when you drive the wrong way.
Windows: unzip Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.45-windows-x64.zip and run Rush2049Recompiled.exe from that folder. Linux (x86-64): extract Rush2049Recompiled-v0.1.45-linux-x64.tar.gz and run Rush2049Recompiled in that folder (glibc 2.35 or newer, a Vulkan driver, GTK 3 and FreeType). Settings and saves carry over from earlier versions.
Fixed: with Scenery Culling at Reduced, buildings that stand on higher ground no longer pop in when you drive a track backward. On Track 1, coming out of the tunnel onto the start straight the wrong way, a group of buildings on the hill ahead on the left came in all at once. They are shorter than the towers v0.1.39 already let through, but stand high above the road. Reduced now also draws any building whose top stands well above you, wherever it is in view, so it comes in while it is still far off. In the attract race that is fewer than two more objects in view on average and no measurable frame time.

Rush 2049 Recompiled v0.1.44
San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled v0.1.44: a ghost's arrow is drawn whole while the ghost can be seen.

Settings and saves carry over from earlier versions.
New: Ghost Arrows (Graphics tab). The arrow over a ghost was drawn into the scene, so anything nearer covered part of it: a ghost driving under the deck beside Track 1's footbridge straight lost the top of its arrow while in plain view. At Whole, the default, an arrow is drawn whole, in front of everything, while its tip above the ghost can be seen, and not at all while something hides the tip, so arrows still don't show through walls. Original draws them as the game did.
The README has the controls, every setting, and how to build it yourself.
Rush 2049 Recompiled v0.1.43
San Francisco Rush 2049: Recompiled v0.1.43: the keyboard's keys on the Controls tab come from the shared support for every recompiled game, and two players sharing the keyboard no longer get the same keys.

Settings and saves carry over from earlier versions.
Changed: v0.1.42's fix for the keyboard's keys on the Controls tab is now the one every recompiled game on the same support has: Reset to defaults gives the keyboard player their default keys, and a gamepad player 1, who also plays the keyboard until another player is given it, has the controller/keyboard switch on their Edit page. One thing differs: with two players on the keyboard (Assign Players, the keyboard given to a second player too), only the first gets the default keys on Reset to defaults. The second starts with none, so one key no longer moves both players.
The README has the controls, every setting, and how to build it yourself.
