BetterWM 0.34.4
Fixed
- The focus ring could stay at the parking corner after ⌘Tab brought a window of another desktop in: the ring was first put at the window's still-parked position, then moved to the slot through the WindowServer, and AppKit put it back at the corner when the ring was ordered front. A focused window still past the corner is no longer ringed there, and AppKit's frame is brought up to date before the ring is ordered front.
BetterWM 0.34.3
Fixed
- The focus ring no longer follows its window to the parking corner and stays there. When the ringed window is parked or set aside (a desktop switch by focus, a tab going behind another), the ring hides until the next focused window brings it back; it used to ride along and could be left at the corner while the previous app was still the frontmost one.
BetterWM 0.34.2
Fixed
- The focus ring could come back at a parked window's corner instead of around the focused window: a ring window that had faded out was moved through the WindowServer while hidden, and AppKit put it back where it last was when it was shown again. Hidden ring windows are now placed through AppKit.
BetterWM 0.34.1
Fixed
- Sideways tabs (tabs on the left) run top to bottom like the deck, instead of bottom to top.
- Renaming a sideways tab: the text field appears in a small panel beside the tab instead of being cut off inside the narrow strip.
Changed
- Retile keeps the screen's columns and the stacks within them, resetting only the sizes to equal shares and tiling any floating windows; it used to rebuild the grid from scratch, one column per window.
BetterWM 0.34.0
Added
sendToDesktopaction, a ring button by default: a menu of every desktop plus a new one, under the button, to send the focused window to. From a hotkey the menu opens at the pointer.
Changed
- The default ring buttons are tile / untile, toggle stacked layout, tabs, retile, and send to desktop; Send to next desktop and the popup are no longer in the default set (they stay available in Settings).
- Stacking a screen remembers its columns: toggling the stacked layout off puts every window back where it was, with the column widths it had; windows that arrived meanwhile get columns of their own at the end. The memory survives a relaunch.
- Floating windows follow to whichever desktop is shown by default (
floatingOnAllDesktopsnow on). Turn it off in Settings › Other desktops to keep an untiled window on one desktop.
BetterWM 0.33.0
Fixed
- The ring buttons no longer hang inside the window when the ring's top edge is right under the status bar (no tab strip above it): AppKit was pushing the pill down to keep it out of the menu bar area.
Added
- Right-clicking a tab, or a desktop chip in the status bar, offers the tab look: on a stacked desktop the stacked look (cascade, tabs on top, left or right), on a columns desktop showing or hiding the tabs above its windows (
tiledTabs). A tab's menu also sends its window to any desktop, or a new one. The same toggle is atoggleTabsaction: a ring button by default, bindable to a hotkey; on a stacked screen it steps to the next look.
BetterWM 0.32.0
Changed
- Settings › Widgets: widgets are reordered by dragging their grip, with a line showing where the row will land, instead of up and down buttons. A widget's own settings (clock format, battery percentage, weather units and location) sit under a disclosure in its row rather than on the Status Bar page.
- Switching between windows of a stack no longer jitters the ring and tabs: the ring's corner radius eases to the new window's instead of snapping, and the tabs keep a constant distance from the strip's start (from the configured ring radius) rather than shifting with each window's measured radius.
Removed
- The grey ring around a window whose tabs are not the focused ones, and the
unfocusedTabssetting with it. The tabs now always move over the ring's gap to touch their window, which reads clearly on its own; anunfocusedTabsline inconfig.confis ignored.
BetterWM 0.31.0
Changed
- Transitions, all under
fadeAnimationsand off with Reduce Motion: the ring cross-fades between grey and its colour instead of snapping; switching tabs in a stack swells the ring line briefly rather than moving it; a grey ring arrives a beat after the main ring has left; the ring buttons grow out of the ring just after it lands; a new tab grows into the strip and its neighbours slide over; the strip's hop onto an unfocused window (attached style) slides.
BetterWM 0.30.2
Fixed
- After a display change (or waking, unlocking) windows could end up laid out wider than the screen: while macOS was still clamping them to the new display, their refusal to shrink was taken for a minimum size. No minimum is learned while the refusal rule is suspended.
- An ask the apps did not take at once (as after a display change) is now judged after the settle time even when window events brought other passes in between; the settle look was dropped when a sooner pass was already booked, leaving the retry to the next unrelated event, seconds later.
BetterWM 0.30.1
Fixed
- The focus ring could get stuck at the parking corner after a desktop switch: moved there through the WindowServer while following a window being parked, it was then asked for a frame AppKit still believed it had, and the request did nothing. Same-size moves now always go through the WindowServer, and AppKit is nudged when it has to be used.
