V360Lab v0.5.4
What's new
- Standby and disconnect on the capture screen: no need to look for Standby in Advanced any more. While the camera is idle the button puts it in standby; while it records the button becomes "Disconnect the app", which lets the recording go on and only stops the app talking to the camera (standby is not offered during a recording, as it would most likely stop it).
- Editable Wi-Fi timeout: the camera's Wi-Fi timeout (minutes) can now be changed in Advanced. With a short timeout, and the phone off the camera's network, the camera should switch its Wi-Fi off by itself during a long recording and turn it on again at the next power-on. To be confirmed on a camera.
Open-source toolkit for the Garmin VIRB 360: find and connect to the camera on the local network, control video and photo capture, and browse, download and delete media with FIT telemetry.

| Android | V360Lab_*_android_universal.apk (signed) |
| Windows | .msi installer or -setup.exe |
| Linux | .AppImage, .deb (Debian/Ubuntu), .rpm (Fedora/openSUSE) |
From 0.5.2 on, V360Lab checks for new versions at start-up and updates itself after you confirm (Windows and Linux AppImage install the signed update; Android downloads the APK). The .sig files and latest.json are used by that automatic update.
The Windows installers are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn on first launch. On Android, allow installation from unknown sources for your browser or file manager.

V360Lab v0.5.3
What's new
- Longer camera battery life while recording: the live preview pauses during a recording or an interval capture (with a "Show anyway" button for the current recording) and whenever the app is in the background or the screen is off; it starts again when you come back. While the app is in the background the camera status is checked once a minute instead of every few seconds.

V360Lab v0.5.2
What's new
- Updates from the app: at start-up V360Lab checks GitHub for a newer release (at most every six hours; can be turned off, and "Check now" in Settings → Updates) and shows what's new. After confirmation, Windows and Linux AppImage download the signed update, verify it, install it and restart; Android downloads the APK and Android asks to install it; .deb and .rpm installations open the download page. "Later" and "Skip this version" are available. This is the first version able to update itself: earlier ones must be updated by hand.

V360Lab v0.5.1
What's new
- Download the detection model from the app: Advanced → App (and the object detection panel when no model is set) offers the recommended YOLO11n model (10.7 MB). The app checks the size and the free space, asks for confirmation reminding to use a Wi-Fi with internet (not the camera's) and warning on mobile data, shows the progress, verifies the SHA-256 and selects the model. No need to know where to put the file; a custom ONNX model can still be chosen.
- Speed test and time estimates for object detection: "Test the speed" runs the model on the device and tells how long a 360° frame takes (and 100 frames), with a warning on slow devices; the progress shows the time left, estimated from the speed test before the first frame and from the frames done afterwards.

V360Lab v0.5.0
What's new
- Object detection (YOLO): find people, vehicles, traffic lights and other objects in the extracted frames with any Ultralytics YOLOv8/YOLO11 model exported to ONNX, run on the device (tract, pure Rust). 360° frames are split into perspective views, each object gets its direction and compass bearing, and the results are saved as
detections.geojson. Progress, cancel and a count per class in the media viewer. - Horizon levelling (experimental): the FIT accelerometer is decoded (with the camera's calibration) and used to straighten 360° images: a "Level horizon" switch in the 360° video view and in the frame extraction, and the camera's roll and pitch in the telemetry panel. Which sensor axis points forward still has to be confirmed on a real camera (see the README).
- Tilt chart: the camera's roll and pitch over the video, under the speed and altitude chart (tap to seek). Useful to check the levelling.
- GPS jumps removed: positions implying an impossible speed (well above the speed the GPS reports) are dropped from the track, distance, exports and frames; the panel shows how many.
- Connected accessories: a headset, Bluetooth sensor or ANT+ sensor connected to the camera (
btHeadset,btSensor, antSensorin its status) is shown on the capture screen and in the status panel. - The FIT decoder reads array fields (several samples per message).

Detection models (v1)
Object detection models that V360Lab can download from the app (Advanced → App → Object detection). They are not app releases.
| File | Model | Classes | Size | SHA-256 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
yolo11n.onnx |
Ultralytics YOLO11n, COCO, exported to ONNX (opset 13, 640×640) | 80 | 10,741,196 bytes | 4e59bcb1a82604a26303a55ce00fa5277a4822614dd9794aba26d021c4735533 |
The app checks the size and the SHA-256 before using the file.
Licence: Ultralytics YOLO models are licensed under the AGPL-3.0, like V360Lab. The model was exported with yolo export model=yolo11n.pt format=onnx opset=13 imgsz=640 (Ultralytics 8.4).
V360Lab v0.4.0
What's new
- Play videos from the media library, streamed from the camera through the backend with seeking: the low-resolution copy (
.GLV) by default, the original on request. 360° videos and photos open in the interactive 360° view. - Telemetry under the video: the FIT file is decoded (native parser) and shown as a GPS track, speed and altitude charts and summary figures (distance, top and average speed, altitude range, climb), synchronized with playback. Tapping the track or the chart seeks the video.
- Motion control for the 360° view on phones: look around by moving the phone.
- Favourites: mark media with a star (
setFavorite) and filter the library by favourites. - Sensors and media folders under Advanced → Device (
sensors, mediaDirList), and a standby button (standby). - Export the GPS track of a video as GPX or GeoJSON, next to its downloads. The GeoJSON also gives, for each point, its UTC time and its position in the video.
- Georeferenced frames: extract frames from a video every N metres or seconds, as JPEG files with EXIF GPS and, for 360° videos, 2:1 equirectangular images with GPano panorama tags (Mapillary, Panoramax, photogrammetry), plus a
frames.geojsonindex. - 360° live preview fixed: the VIRB squeezes the 360° preview into 16:9, which the viewer used to reject (it expected 2:1), so it stayed flat.
- Author and source code: the app (Advanced → About), the website and the README name the author, Maurizio Napolitano, and give the address of the source code, as the AGPL-3.0 asks.
- README: removed an outdated limitation (the live preview and file deletion exist); phase 1 of the roadmap marked as done.

V360Lab v0.3.0
What's new
- Interactive 360° preview: with the 360° lens, the live preview shows a perspective view of the sphere, as Garmin's app does: drag to look around, pinch or scroll to zoom, "Look ahead" to recenter. The flat (equirectangular) image is one tap away. Not yet tested on a real camera.
- Smoother live preview: the video packets are now read by a dedicated task with a larger receive buffer, and the decoder tolerates a longer queue. Before, lost packets froze the image until the next keyframe, which made the 360° preview look stroboscopic. Losses are logged every 10 seconds. When the image is waiting for a keyframe, the app asks the camera for one at once (
enableIDR). - Find the camera (Advanced → Device): make the camera beep and blink until you find it (
locate/found). - Supported commands: the app reads the camera's
commandList, shows it under Advanced → Device, and hides the Wi-Fi tab when the camera does not listnetworks. - Camera Wi-Fi (Advanced → Wi-Fi): save a network on the camera, choosing it from the networks the camera sees or typing its name, remove saved networks, and make the camera join one, as in Garmin's VIRB app. Network names and passwords are checked before they are sent. Not yet tested on a real camera.

V360Lab v0.2.0
What's new
- Photo shutter as a lens diaphragm: the photo and interval shutter is a six-blade diaphragm, closed at rest, that opens onto the lens when a picture is taken; during an interval capture it stays open with a stop sign.
- Recording halo: while recording, the video shutter pulses with a red glow and an expanding ring (still with reduced motion).
- Faster live preview after a lens or mode change: the camera stops its preview stream when the lens changes; the app now restarts it after 2 seconds instead of showing a frozen image for about 6 seconds. Tested on a VIRB 360 with firmware 4.20 (360° and front lens).
- Android: the APK targets the stable Android 16 SDK (API 36); fixed the release build setup.
- Website in English and Italian, with screenshots in each language.
