SolarwindsMSP: SSD Data Recovery Best Practices
- Any issues with saving, reading, and moving files might be a problem with the SSD
- HDD, you can hear problems, buzzing noises the disk makes when it's about to fail, but SSD's are silent and just stop working one day.
- Through physical damage or memory corruption, there is a failure to store data on the SSD
If the Source is a power failure, you can get it back to working condition by power cycling:
- unplug the SATA data cable, but leave the power cable in. Leave the power on for half an hour
- then turn it off for 30 seconds.
- Turn the power back on again for another half hour.
- Turn it off for another 30 seconds.
- Turn the power back on and reconnect the data cable.
- If power cycling has been effective, the SSD will be back up at this point.
How might this topic be relevant in the aftermath of a natural disaster? Describe how individuals or communities can use these techniques to recover data and resume their normal activities.
- With this knowledge, you can recover the data in the event that the power shuts down, or anything wonky, even some physical damage has been done to the ssd, but it is on a case by case basis
