Reading Computer Network - AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting)

Explain each of the three A’s as you would to a non-technical family member. Use an analogy or a story.

A - The First is getting access A - THe seocnd A is how much access A - THe third A is when you are accessing, what are you doing, and accessing

Authentication, Authorization, Accounting- accounting is taking account of, being held accountable.

What should the administrator do if the ACS server fails to authenticate a user during AAA implementation?

it uses the local database it has on everyone.

What is the role of the NAS in the AAA implementation using an ACS server? Use a diagram.

RADIUS Concepts NAS is used to access the RADIUS server. They are both servers. NAS Authenticates you first and until you can get into NAS< then you can get to RADIUS

What are the benefits of using RADIUS for authentication and authorization?

There is a centralized authentication service. In other words say you have a big party and hired 20 people at the doors of a huge chapel, where they need to authenticate everyone, but they each only have a part of the list. And on the outside of the doors are signs where if your name starts with A-E you must go through this door, etc. But if the hired workers authenticating everyone need to see the whole list of guests, they can call up one person, instead of searching through each other's lists.

What is RADIUS and what does it stand for?

Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service it is a protocol software that enables remote access server to communicate with the central server

PAP, CHAP- three way handshake, EAP-TLS, EAP-PEAP
