What is a site-to-site VPN?

What is TCP/IP and what is it used for?

  • Stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. Before the Internet was as we know it today, different companies computer's would all communicate by physical networks programmed to receive packets through the company's set up protocols. THis is TCP/IP which set the foundation for the internet

What are some popular reasons for using a VPN?

  1. Work Remotely and have access to sensitive data
  2. connect data between major companies
  3. the big company can give access to data to everyone as if the data was physically there, but more securely

Explain the difference between the three types of VPNs.

  1. Remote Access VPNs- temporary access set-up location, for example access company's data at home
  2. Intranet based site-to-site: is more than one LAN Local Area Network connected with each-other to form WAN, Wide Area Network
  3. Extranet based site-to-site: More than one WAN to connect to another WAN which usually is a different company alothgether
