OSX 10.7.5 Homebrew: failed to download resource "neovim"

OSX 10.7.5 Homebrew install via:
brew tap neovim/homebrew-neovim
brew install --HEAD neovim
Throws this error:
Error: Failed to download resource "neovim" Failure while executing: git clone --depth 1 --branch master https://github.com/neovim/neovim.git /Library/Caches/Homebrew/neovim--git
Issuing git clone --depth 1 --branch master https://github.com/neovim/neovim.git /Library/Caches/Homebrew/neovim--git in a separate terminal session works as expected.

That sounds more like a homebrew problem--rather than one we created. Have tried any of the troubleshooting tips?

Any idea which git binary brew uses? I suspect it can't find the stock git binary, as I also have Macport git.

Do you have a new version of git installed? I would check your $ brew --env to make sure it corresponds with that Git version.

I imagine the git it will pick up is the one at /usr/bin, assuming you have the XCode command line tools installed.

Have you run brew doctor at all? It may give an indication of what is failing.

I think you are right. I don't have git in /usr/bin (moved it, so it doesn't conflict with Macport maintained version in /opt/local/bin).

I ran brew doctor. Here's output:

I'm a little off topic, but as a general note, it's not recommended to use both homebrew and macports at the same time as they can conflit (and you've already experienced that).

it can be done by wrapping Macports as explained here: Use Both Homebrew and Macports on Your OS X

@srustamo looking at your brew doctor output you might really want to install the newest version of XCode on your system. It might greatly help.

Also you might want to follow the instruction to move Macports out of the way.

/usr/local/Library/ENV/4.3/git was the culprit in my case.
