This release speeds up XKit's boot time and removes a good chunk of legacy code. From hereon, XKit Patches will actually be providing patches for the current XKit version, while each future release will incorporate any additions to XKit Patches to the core addon.

All branding has also been updated, with all links to xkit-extension.tumblr.com and xkit.info removed, and most mentions of XKit changed to New XKit. All information contained at the removed links is now contained in XKit information windows for ease of use and self-sufficiency; including installation troubleshooting.

The latest version of New XKit is 7.8.1, which is at this link

This release incorporates a bunch of miscellaneous improvements. The first, and most impactful, is that the Chrome and Firefox extensions have been consolidated into a single WebExtension. This WebExtension has the exact same functionality while supporting two browsers for the price of one. Most notably, it will work on Firefox Quantum (57). The other improvements are switching to a more consistent vendor directory, implementing XKit.storage.delete, and adding the lodash library.

If you're on a version of New XKit for Firefox prior to 7.7.7, you'll have to install it from its release page first or use XCloud exports to make sure that your storage migrates correctly.

Firefox Release 7.7.8 Pre-release
Pre-release

7.7.8 is a minor update to 7.7.7 which fixes a bug in the XKit Editor

Release Notes from 7.7.7

This release improves the compatibility of the Embedded Web Extension for users with e10s/Multiprocess disabled. All users should upgrade to this release, especially if they had trouble upgrading to 7.7.6.

The current plan is for this to be the last release of XKit for Firefox using the Addon SDK. This means that going forward the code for Chrome and Firefox will be unified, and under the same release cycle. If you're currently using Firefox 57 (in Nightly at the time of this release) then you won't be able to use this update, and you'll have to use a different release of Firefox to migrate your settings to the Web Extension versions.

If you're from the future, and upgrading to future versions of XKit from a version prior to this one, you'll have to install 7.7.7 first or use XCloud exports to make sure that your storage migrates correctly.

NOTE: Firefox may complain about getting a connection error when clicking the below XPI link. If it does, right-click the link and select "Save link as...". Then navigate to 'about:addons' and drag the file onto that screen to install New XKit.

new-xkit-7.7.8-webext-beta.zip is a prerelease of the native WebExtension for users on Firefox Nightly or Firefox Beta who still want to continue using XKit. It will be made obsolete by a signed 7.8.0 release in the near future.

If you're trying to recover your saved extensions from a previous version of XKit, you'll have to downgrade to Firefox 56 before installing 7.7.7.
