A new Git sidebar setting, "Background indexing limit (MB)", decides how much of a large diff Swate reads ahead while you look at it. With a value from 1 to 63 the diff stays in memory and writes no temporary files. #1388 (by @caroott)

The diff of a changed file opens page by page and loads more lines as you scroll. Files of several gigabytes now open quickly, and Swate stays responsive while it reads the rest in the background.
