- Install homebrew (see
./pre-setup.sh
)- The first thing brew does is to install the Xcode command-line utilities (these are needed for other things as well); if you do not get a popup, manually run
xcode-select --install

in the shell you will run./pre-setup.sh
in - You do not need to run the command suggests to add Homebrew to your path (it’s already in .profile)

Optional (haven’t decided on best way to install poetry, currently installing through nix):
- Install poetry (recommended method is not packaged)
Run ./pre-setup.sh
then ./setup.sh
. Enter password as necessary. Reboot afterwards. After the initial setup, dots
can be used to run setup.sh
from anywhere. See dots --help

- Swap command and control for external keyboard in system settings
- Run
p10k configure
to fully set up shell prompt; I’ve decided to continue to do this rather than store the generated file in my dotfiles; it is very quick, and I might want slightly different behavior for different computers
If you are using karabiner for keyboard layout:
- Add Colemak-DH as input source (after installing karabiner)
If you are using tmux (currently not):
- Run <prefix> I to install tmux plugins (after installing/running tmux)
Also install firefox/addons including tridactyl.
- Open a new tab so tridactyl is activated
- Run
:installnative
and follow instructions :source ~~/.config/tridactyl/tridactylrc
and restart firefox (necessary for setprefs to take affect and start saving browser session)- Set up webcam/audio
- Configure docker to run at startup
Notifications:
- Change Microsoft Teams notification setting to use Mac notifications and enable/allow notifications in System Settings for Teams
- Also allow zoom notifications and notifications for any other apps you want notifications from
