v2.8.0 - the math release
Math, precision selection, and an interface that adapts to you.
Native LaTeX math — no web engine
$inline$ and $$display$$ equations render natively through Direct2D, the same way Tinta renders Mermaid (#80 — thanks @tan9p for the sample exam that drove development):
- Fractions, sub/superscripts (including combined
x_1^mstacks), stretchy\left(...\right)delimiters,\sqrt,\overline,\overrightarrow, Greek letters and ~100 symbols - Inline math sits in the text flow, baseline-aligned, wrapping as a unit; display math centers as a block
- Copying a selection over math gives you back the LaTeX source; search finds it
- Prints correctly through Ctrl+P — math-heavy documents export to PDF
- Anything unsupported falls back to readable source, never a blank
Selection that matches your intent
The selection system is rewritten from screen rectangles to character offsets (#83 — thanks @wxh-777):
- Highlights snap to glyph boundaries — no more mid-character selection edges
- Drags can start on margins or empty space and select from the nearest text
- What you copy is exactly what's highlighted, always
- Selections survive zoom and resize; drags auto-scroll past the window edge; Shift+click extends
- Tables select naturally: within a row across cells, row-by-row across rows
- Search-match highlights are now glyph-precise too (visible with CJK text)
Shortcut profiles
Tinta began keyboard-first with vim-ish keys; now the UI has grown up and the shortcuts can match your taste (Settings → Keyboard shortcuts):
- Windows (new default):
Eedits,F1opens help,Fsearches - Vim:
/searches,:edits,?helps, j/k scroll - Custom: click the ✎ to open the shortcut editor — click an action, press its new key
- Raw
:and?keep working in every profile, and punctuation bindings now work on any keyboard layout
Side panels share the space
The folder browser (B) and table of contents (Tab) now push the document aside instead of covering it — the reading column reflows to the remaining width and restores on close. Clicking the content scrollbar dismisses the browser and works in the same click.
