Tinta v3.0.0 — the tabs release

Markdown, distilled — now with tabs.

Tinta becomes a tabbed markdown workspace while staying a single native executable of about 1.4 MB that starts in under 100 ms.

Tabs (#115)

  • Win11 Notepad-style tabs live in the title bar: files opened from Explorer join the existing window as tabs (turn it off with the "Open files in tabs" setting). Ctrl+Tab cycles, Ctrl+W or middle-click closes, Ctrl+T opens the file browser into a new tab, Ctrl+1–9 jumps, and an overflow switcher lists everything when the strip gets crowded
  • Drag to reorder. Pull a tab out of the strip and it floats as a card: drop it on open space for a new window, or onto another Tinta window to move it there — and dropping a single-file window onto a tab strip merges it back
  • Right-click a tab for Close, Close all but this, Close all to the left/right, Copy file path, and Reveal in Explorer
  • Session restore brings your tab set and active tab back on the next launch. Unsaved buffers show an orange dot, files deleted on disk a muted red one, and edits parked in background tabs survive switching
  • A fresh untitled note (Ctrl+N or the + button) offers a centered Open a file button (Ctrl+O) in the preview pane until you start typing

Interface

  • The title bar is Tinta's own: a themed caption whose strip doubles as the tab row, with matching window controls and frame colors (#115)
  • The settings dialog adopts a Fluent-style card design — one lifted card per setting, a cleaner section rail, and a real Left | Right segmented control (#116)

Fixed

  • Clicking a folder-browser row right after a fast mouse move opened the previously highlighted row instead of the one under the cursor (#114)
  • Unexpected crashes now write a diagnostic dump to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Tinta\crash.dmp, making bug reports actionable

Installation

  1. Download tinta.exe below and run it (SmartScreen: "More info" → "Run anyway")
  2. Or winget install "Tinta Markdown Viewer" -s msstore / scoop install tinta
  3. Optionally run tinta.exe /register to register Markdown and Mermaid files
