Tinta v3.3.0
Tinta v3.3.0
Markdown, distilled. The redesign release: a new start page, one unified editor with the rendered page floating beside your source, Pandoc export, and ten retuned themes with a chooser that shows every palette live.
Installation
- Easiest:
winget install "Tinta Markdown Viewer" -s msstore(Store-signed, no security prompts, auto-updates), or the Microsoft Store page - Portable: download
tinta.exebelow and run it (SmartScreen may ask: "More info", then "Run anyway") - Optionally run
tinta.exe /registerto register Markdown and Mermaid files
The start page (#142)
- Launching without a file lands on a launcher: recent files, quick actions labeled with your actual key bindings, and two built-in guides
- It is the universal empty state - closing the last tab returns there instead of closing the window, and Ctrl+T opens it as a new tab
The unified editor (#142)
- One raw Markdown buffer with the rendered page floating beside it, a sheet of paper on the editor's desk - rounded, shadowed, rising to the window's top edge with the window controls riding it as an island
- A slim line-number gutter lives in the editor; the caret's line and its rendered block both carry a soft accent wash, so you always see where your edit lands on the page
- The left tool rail holds formatting controls plus real pickers for tables (an 8x6 size grid) and diagrams (seven Mermaid templates); the same pickers live in the right-click insert menu
- Ctrl+E shows or hides the page, the gap between the panes drags the split, and Markdown assists (lists continue on Enter, Tab indents, Ctrl+B/I wrap) are a setting
Pandoc export (#143)
- If pandoc is installed (or you point Tinta at it in settings), an export button appears in the editor rail offering EPUB, OpenDocument, PowerPoint, RTF and LaTeX
- Rich formats convert from Tinta's own HTML export, so diagrams and math arrive as vector graphics instead of decaying into code blocks
Themes, tuned (#144)
- All ten palettes retuned as a set: accents on shared luminance rows, per-theme syntax colors, temperature-tinted comments, and contrast fixes - Dracula stays canonical
- The theme chooser is rebuilt: every card is a live palette proof ending in the seven syntax colors as a dot row, hovering a card repaints the whole app behind the dialog, and with follow-system on the day and night defaults wear sun and moon pins
Also new
- Local SVG images render natively, and the help overlay shows the app version (#137)
- Portable builds check GitHub once a day and offer a new release as a quiet, dismissible chip (#138)
- Emoji shortcodes like
:rocket:, a Fit button that shrinks wide tables and diagrams to the column, and per-document zoom memory (#139) - Unsaved quick notes survive crashes: drafts are stashed continuously and offered back on the next launch (#140)
- Clicking a missing file reference offers to create the file and opens it ready to type (#140)
- Plain-text references (.txt, .json, .yaml and friends) link like Markdown files and open as highlighted documents (#141)
What's included
- Export as HTML, DOCX, or PDF - plus the Pandoc formats above
- 22 natively rendered Mermaid diagram families
- Tabbed interface with drag, session restore, and a tab context menu
- 10 tuned themes (5 light, 5 dark) plus custom themes
- Hardware-accelerated rendering via Direct2D
- Single portable executable about 2.1 MB, no dependencies

Thanks
The start page, unified editor, and theme pass grew out of live test-driving feedback over the whole redesign cycle. If something feels off, open an issue - the fastest fixes in this release came from exactly that.
