Tinta v3.4.0

Markdown, distilled. The feedback release: every change in this one came from a user report - portable mode, one document per window fixed, correct table widths, locale-correct kanji, and a heading separator toggle.

Installation

  • Easiest: winget install "Tinta Markdown Viewer" -s msstore (Store-signed, no security prompts, auto-updates), or the Microsoft Store page
  • Portable: download tinta.exe below and run it (SmartScreen may ask: "More info", then "Run anyway")
  • Optionally run tinta.exe /register to register Markdown and Mermaid files

Portable mode (#147)

  • Create a settings.ini next to tinta.exe (even an empty one) and that folder becomes the config home: settings, custom themes, UI languages, and drafts all travel with the exe
  • Without it, configuration stays in %APPDATA%\Tinta as before; Store installs are unaffected

One document per window (#147)

  • With "Open files in tabs" off, every file opens in its own window again: new windows no longer inherit the previous session's tabs
  • The toggle now takes effect immediately for the next file you open - no need to close every Tinta window first

Tables measure what they render (#148)

  • Column widths are measured with the renderer's own font shaping, so CJK tables no longer wrap their last line over the bottom border
  • Inline code in cells is measured as the padded mono chip it actually renders as, so long code spans stay inside the table

Japanese and Korean text (#155)

  • Kanji now follow the Windows UI language: Japanese systems prefer Yu Gothic and Meiryo instead of Simplified-Chinese glyph variants, and Korean systems prefer Malgun Gothic

Heading separators are optional (#154)

  • Settings > Appearance gains a toggle for the lines drawn under level 1 and 2 headings; it applies live and is remembered

What's included

  • Export as HTML, DOCX, or PDF - plus the Pandoc formats above
  • 22 natively rendered Mermaid diagram families
  • Tabbed interface with drag, session restore, and a tab context menu
  • 10 tuned themes (5 light, 5 dark) plus custom themes
  • Hardware-accelerated rendering via Direct2D
  • Single portable executable about 2.1 MB, no dependencies
