OpenEmperor 0.1.0-alpha.1

This is the first externally testable OpenEmperor sandbox for native macOS on Apple Silicon. It is an experimental alpha, not a complete recreation of Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom.

What you can do

  • Choose a supported standalone map through the main menu.
  • Run the OpenEmperor Industry-v5 sandbox with roads, two clay sources, two pottery works, one warehouse, up to four households, and five couriers.
  • Build and remove roads, pause or step the simulation, and observe routing and live rerouting.
  • Save and load OpenEmperor worlds.
  • Optionally use local curated JSON profiles to preview original walker, building, and road graphics supplied by you.

Requirements

  • Apple Silicon Mac. This package is built and tested for arm64.
  • A legally obtained, installed or extracted copy of Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom. Select the game data folder, not the GOG installer file.
  • No original game data or decoded assets are included.

Download OpenEmperor-0.1.0-alpha.1-1ee25bdf7347-macos-arm64.zip, extract it, and open OpenEmperor.app. The app is ad-hoc signed and not notarized, so macOS may display a security warning.

Known limitations

Original Emperor gameplay and saves are unsupported. Campaigns, trade, taxes, religion, military, monuments, much of the original rendering, elevation, and many map graphics are outside this alpha. Visual mappings are curated diagnostics, whole-image depth is approximate, horizontal mirroring is unverified, and some road ends use diagnostic fallbacks. See KNOWN_ISSUES.md.

The repository currently has no project LICENSE file; the project licensing decision is still pending. Bundled third-party license notices are included in the app.

Reporting bugs

Use the bug report form. Include the OpenEmperor version, macOS version, map, exact steps, expected result, actual result, visual-profile status, and terminal errors. Never upload original Emperor game files, the GOG installer, or proprietary assets.
