• Refuse to start a process that writes to a Git repository already written by another running process, such as a second ota track started while the scheduled tracker runs, instead of letting both race the working tree and the index, which made one of them fail or discard the uncommitted changes of the other; stop the running writer first, the error names it and the .git/ota-writer.lock file that holds the lock until it exits

• Remove at each tracking run the index.lock file left behind by a Git operation interrupted by a kill, which otherwise made the tracker fail at every restart with index.lock: File exists
