PuppetCat 0.8.0
PuppetCat 0.8.0
The open-source video editor your AI agent can actually use. Every feature is available in the window and to agents over MCP.
This is an alpha. Expect rough edges, and please report issues.
Highlights
Videos with several audio tracks. If a file has more than one audio stream (two microphones, game plus voice, several languages), you can choose which one a clip plays.
- Pick the track in the clip inspector's Audio panel. The selector appears only when the file has more than one track; each entry shows its number, title or language, and mono or stereo.
- The choice applies to preview, export and the waveform, and survives split, undo and save.
- Each clip keeps its own choice. To hear two tracks at once, put the same media on two timeline tracks and choose a different audio track on each.
Clip groups. Select two or more clips and choose Group from the clip's right-click menu or the Edit menu.
- Moving, trimming, splitting or deleting any member does the same to the others.
- A split gives the new tails their own group.
- Ungroup frees the clips; a group left with a single clip dissolves by itself.
- Grouping is undoable and saved in the project.
Badges on modified clips. A modified clip shows small icons in its header, and hovering it lists the changes in words. Clips straight from the media bin show none. Badges cover: video effects, audio filters, grouped, audio detached (or a detached sound clip), video sound off or silent, a chosen audio track, speed or reverse, and a transition in. They replace the old fx and G chips.
Improvements
- Detach audio and Reattach audio are now in the clip's right-click menu (before, detach was only reachable through a small icon in the timeline tray).
- AI agents (MCP): new
get_audio_trackstool lists a media file's audio tracks;update_clipacceptsaudioTrack;groupClipsandungroupClipsare available throughapply_raw_command.
Fixes
- Reattach audio on a muted video whose detached sound clip was deleted did nothing, leaving the video silent. It now unmutes the video.
- The inspector's Track selector could keep showing the previous clip's choice after selecting another clip.
Notes
- Existing projects open unchanged.
- Waveform, transcription and audio analysis still use the file's default track.
- No keyboard shortcut for group/ungroup yet, and during a trim group members only follow once you release.

This is an alpha. Expect rough edges, and please report what breaks.
