Hi everyone,

I have received the email confirming that my application to join GitHub Education as a teacher has been approved last week, but when I try to access the Introduction to Computer Science with Microsoft Makecode Arcade course https://aka.ms/TEALSintroCS, it tells me that my GitHub teacher verification has failed. What should I do to get this fixed up?

Hi! Your GitHub verification is very likely fine. This is a known issue on the Microsoft MakeCode / TEALS side, not GitHub Education, and many verified teachers have hit it.

Why it happens
The Intro to CS with MakeCode Arcade materials live in a private repository (microsoft/TEALS-MakeCode-IntroCS). The automated check behind aka.ms/TEALSintroCS often fails for Intro CS even when your account is verified; some teachers pass it for AP CSP but not Intro CS. Being a verified teacher makes you eligible, but you still need a manual invitation to the repo.

How to get access

1. Confirm your status at https://education.github.com. Make sure you're signed in with the same GitHub account you used to apply.
2. Request the repo invite using the form on the official course page: https://forms.office.com/r/gCC9sC0krg
   (Linked from https://arcade.makecode.com/courses/introcs under Course Materials.)
3. Watch your email and GitHub notifications for an invitation to microsoft/TEALS-MakeCode-IntroCS, and accept it promptly. GitHub repo invitations expire, and teachers have had to ask for a new one.
4. Sign out of GitHub and back in, then go directly to https://github.com/microsoft/TEALS-MakeCode-IntroCS. Use Code → Download ZIP if you want the materials offline.

If you don't get an invite within a few days
Post on the MakeCode forum (Educators' Lounge). The curriculum team answers there and has been adding teachers directly:

Include your GitHub username and a screenshot showing your verified teacher status. That's all they need.

Good to know

• If the repo link shows a 404, you simply haven't been added yet. Private repos show 404 to anyone without access.
• GitHub periodically asks academic users to re-verify. If access stops working later, check https://education.github.com first.
