You won't get in trouble for applying. Applying with your real school and real documents is exactly what the process is for; the only thing that gets an account into trouble is submitting false information. "School not supported" usually means GitHub doesn't recognise your school's email domain yet. The docs cover this case directly (Apply to GitHub Education as a student):
So:
Tips that avoid a rejection: take a clear photo of the document rather than a screenshot, and make sure the date on it is current. If this gets you through, marking it as the answer helps the next student who hits the same message. |

Hi! I went through the exact same situation, so I can tell you from experience: applying honestly will not get you punished, even if your school isn't listed yet. GitHub only takes action against things like fake documents, false information, or creating multiple accounts to abuse the benefits. A real student asking to have their school added is exactly what the process is for. In my case, I had to submit my application about 3 times before it was finally approved, so don't give up if the first one gets rejected. Here's what worked for me, step by step: Step 1: Add your education email to your GitHub account
Step 2: Prepare your profile
Step 3: Start the application
Step 4: If your school doesn't appear
Step 5: Upload proof of enrollmentHave a clear photo of a document that shows your name, your school's name, and a current date/term, such as:
Make sure the document is readable, not cropped, and not edited. Step 6: If you get rejected, fix it and try againThis is where most people give up, but it's normal. My first attempts were rejected too. Each time:
After adjusting the details based on the feedback, my third application went through. TL;DR: Verify your edu email, match your name to your documents, apply, request your school be added if needed, and upload a clear, dated proof of enrollment. If it gets rejected, read the reason, fix it and resubmit. It took me 3 tries, but it worked in the end. Good luck! If this helped, please consider marking it as the answer. |

What you should do
If GitHub rejects his application
One important question: Is he studying at a college that is officially recognized but simply missing from GitHub's list? |
