Jamulus
Sound not getting to Jamulus #3973

Thank you in advance. The sound meters in Jamulus are not responding to my bass. I am using Jamulus 3.12.5, MOTU M Series ASIO driver version 4.5.0.551, 48khz, 128 sample buffer. Windows detects the MOTU input, and audacity records the bass. Jamulus input meters don't move with In 1 or In 2. Audient Asio driver fails to initialize and JACK does not appear to be installed. CHATGPT has run me in circles for hours. Any help would be greatly apprecieted! |

Note that Jack is used on Linux platform , usually not on Windows platform
(which require an ASIO driver ).

What could have prevented or helped here? Perhaps a default install delivers client and server bits running. Then auto connect. Lets you list in a dialog step. It's a bit much but I want new users to succeed! And honestly a server that asks to auto-run would be an impactful feature! All these servers opted on with one click. Nutty. |

I wouldn't want to auto connect to a server by default. |

Or, if it were designed such that the software could register the sound of
your own instrument before you connect to a server… so you don’t have to
connect to see if it’s working. Mind you, I am in no way a software
engineer, and my knowledge of these things is quite limited. Take my advice
with a huge grain of salt.

The main benefit of actually connecting through a server is you can do a proper check.
There's no benefit trying to add something that needs testing against a server to the client because it's not actually doing the test. |

We added the "connect to a server" and a larger connect button to the start screen to prevent this. We should think about how to make the state even clearer then. It was never a problem for anyone I interacted yet to see that you first need to connect but obviously it's not the same for everyone. Maybe in Jamulus 4 not just deactivate but hide the level meters. |

Or have "Please connect to a server for audio" in place of the mixer panel. Or "Not hearing anything? Click here for help" in place of the mixer panel. Although, the manual could start off by answering "what's the first thing a new user wants to do?" rather than opening with "Ping, Delay and Jitter" which are probably not going to mean much. |
