Custom lua script seems to break in quarto 1.4

Yeah, that's a bug. The issue is that we're incorrectly parsing your footer (because of that strange <? ?> construction). I'm not sure if we're the ones parsing it wrongly or Pandoc is, but something is going wrong.

@royfrancis Why did you create a new shortcode syntax rather than using {{< >}}? What was the rational / use case?

@mcanouil I think that didn't work for me back then and this did. I didn't have any issues with this for a year until I updated to the latest version. Is there a better way to get quarto version, current year, date and time directly into a qmd document without Python or R? At least for the quarto version, maybe there is an env variable that can be accessed through {{< env >}}?

If you're ok with inspecting at the HTML document source, the quarto version is always available in the header, eg <meta name="generator" content="quarto-1.5.7">. Date information will require Lua, although I can see why it could be useful to add that to the header as well. We generally shy away from content that is not consistent from one render to the next, because that makes snapshot testing slightly more awkward, but we'll keep this in mind.
