What's new
- Writing practice: Practice → Writing. Pick a unit and write a few sentences. Sprigo marks each mistake right in your text, explains why, and shows a corrected version. Your mistakes come back later in Fix your mistakes.
- Verb drills: Practice → Verb forms. Type the right form of a verb for a person and tense. The tenses grow with your level. Spanish, French, German, Turkish and English.
- Your progress: Profile → Progress shows your XP per day, the words you've learned, how accurate you are in each kind of exercise, and your speaking pace week by week.
- Stories: words already in My words are highlighted as you read, and once you move up a level you can still read every story from the earlier ones.
Full Changelog: v1.8.0...v1.9.0
Sprigo 1.8.0
Downloads for macOS, Windows and Linux. The macOS app is not notarized yet: see the README for the one-time xattr command.
What's new
- Tap a word: tap any word in stories, tutor captions and lessons to see its meaning, part of speech and an example, then add it to My words in one tap.
- Speak your answers: writing exercises have a microphone button. Say the answer instead of typing it (desktop app with a speech model).
- Backup AI provider: pick a second AI provider in Settings → AI. If the main one doesn't answer, Sprigo switches to the backup and tells you.
- Flashcards: Practice → Cards. Flip a card, then rate it Again, Hard, Good or Easy; each button shows when you'll see the card next. Review what's due today, all your words, or one unit, and add your own cards. Space flips, 1–4 rates.
Full Changelog: v1.7.0...v1.8.0
Sprigo 1.7.0
Downloads for macOS, Windows and Linux. The macOS app is not notarized yet: see the README for the one-time xattr command.
What's new
- Faster Piper voice: the first sentence after opening the app now plays in under a second instead of up to half a minute. Listen buttons show when a voice is getting ready and can't be pressed twice.
- Speech speed and accent: set the voice speed (0.7× to 1.2×) in Settings → Text to speech. English courses can switch between American and British voices.
- Slow replay: lessons have a 0.7× button next to Listen.
- Your words in and out: export your word list as CSV under Practice → My words, or import a CSV or an Anki deck. Your review schedule comes along.
- Beta updates: turn on Settings → Beta updates to try new versions before everyone else.
- What's new: after each update, Sprigo shows what changed, like this note.
Full Changelog: v1.6.0...v1.7.0

Sprigo 1.5.0
Fluency drills
A new Fluency drills card on Practice: short, timed voice talks with one of the characters, each built to make speaking smoother rather than more correct. A time bar shows how long is left; the clock waits for the first reply and pauses if something goes wrong.
- Planning. A minute to plan before you talk for three. As you get used to it, the planning time shrinks: 60 s, then 30 s, then none.
- 4/3/2. Tell the same story three times in 4, 3 and 2 minutes. A card at the end compares your speed, pauses and fillers across the rounds.
- Pressure ladder. Three rungs, each a little harder: plan first, then no planning, then a surprise topic.
- Structure. The talk steers toward the pattern of the unit you're on. If you've steered around the same pattern three times, Sprigo names it once and invites you to try it.
Drills that compare your speaking need voice analysis; the drill offers to turn it on.
Rehearse a real conversation
On Roleplay, tell Sprigo who you need to talk to and about what. They play the part with no corrections, and when you step out of role you get a short debrief: where you got stuck and a few phrases that would have helped.
Voice and AI
- More voices. ElevenLabs, or your own local OpenAI-compatible TTS server. The call shows which voice engine is speaking, and tells you once if it had to fall back to the system voice.
- OpenRouter as an AI provider preset.
- Whisper models can be downloaded and deleted from Settings.
Profile and garden
- Achievements with tiers and badges, and a full list on your profile.
- A note in your garden. A short AI-written note under the cards, kept for three days.
Settings
- Settings are split into tabs: profile, preferences, AI & voice, privacy & data.
- Set your native language, and pick voices for the language you're learning.
- The memory switch moved to Settings; the memory sheet is now a plain list.
Fixes
- The tutor's sense of how you usually speak, and the coaching card, now only count live lessons, not chats or drills.
Install
- macOS:
brew install --cask ozerozdas/tap/sprigo - macOS or Linux (x86_64):
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ozerozdas/sprigo/master/install.sh | sh
Both handle the macOS quarantine flag for you.
Downloads for macOS, Windows and Linux. The macOS app is not notarized yet: see the README for the one-time xattr command.
Sprigo 1.4.1
