Experimente no navegador: https://pantojinho.github.io/PixelGotchi/guia.html

  • Cuidados: comer, brincar, limpar, remédio, dormir, carinho e status.
    Clique alimenta; segurar e soltar abre o menu no cuidado mais urgente;

Instalar

  • Mais fácil: o instalador pelo navegador
    (Chrome/Edge + cabo USB-C de dados).
  • Pelos arquivos desta release (PixelGotchi-v0.1.0.zip, pasta firmware/):
    • Do zero (apaga o pet salvo e o bichinho do editor):
      esptool.py --chip esp32s3 write_flash 0x0 PixelGotchi-v0.1.0-esp32s3-4MB-merged.bin
    • Atualizar mantendo o pet: esptool.py --chip esp32s3 write_flash 0x10000 firmware.bin

English

A pixel-art virtual pet for the Waveshare ESP32-S3-Matrix (8×8 LEDs,
accelerometer, BOOT button), with a website, a pet editor and a 3D-printable
case. Try it in your browser: https://pantojinho.github.io/PixelGotchi/guia.html?lang=en

What's in it

  • 6 pets: capybara, cat, frog, chick, bunny and axolotl, each with a
favorite food, expressions and a wild version. Plus your own, created
in the editor and sent over USB, with no compiling.
  • Life cycle: pick → egg that hatches after 5 min of movement → animated
hatching with its own name → life → neglect in stages → wild → RIP. Well
cared for, it lives forever. Everything is saved on the board.
  • Care: food, play, clean, medicine, sleep, petting and status. Click
feeds; hold and release opens the menu on the most urgent care; shaking
plays; face down sleeps; tilting makes it walk.
  • Continuous animations: the pet never disappears; meals with food in
front of the mouth, chewing and a heart; small intentions (sniffing,
watching, following a butterfly, napping) that yield to any care.
  • Conway dreams: a bubble rises from its head and becomes the world,
20–40 s chapters (gliders, pulses, groups being born), and Conway around the
    pet when it is alone.
  • Bilingual website (PT/EN): "Start here" guide, a simulator with the same
drawings as the firmware, the pet editor and a USB installer.
  • Safe LEDs: brightness 5/255, current 400 mA, gamma curve and per-color
    brightness.
  • 3D case: 28.7 × 28.7 × 8.6 mm, no supports, pins for BOOT/RESET, a
keychain loop, a diffuser version and a battery version.

Install

  • Easiest: the browser installer
    (Chrome/Edge + USB-C data cable).
  • From this release's files (PixelGotchi-v0.1.0.zip, firmware/ folder):
    • Fresh install (erases the saved pet and the editor pet):
      esptool.py --chip esp32s3 write_flash 0x0 PixelGotchi-v0.1.0-esp32s3-4MB-merged.bin
    • Update keeping the pet: esptool.py --chip esp32s3 write_flash 0x10000 firmware.bin
  • Or build with PlatformIO: see docs/en/INSTALL.md.

If the port does not answer: hold BOOT, press and release RESET, release BOOT
and try again. Check the files with SHA256SUMS.txt. The case/ folder has
the STLs and the printing and assembly guide.

Known limitations

  • Everything was verified in software (firmware tests with simulated
hardware, website and editor tests, and the build); full testing on a
physical board is still in progress. Reports are very welcome in the issues.
  • While the board is off, the pet's time is paused (there is no battery-backed
    clock).
  • The case measurements came from drawings and photos: the first print is a
    fit test.
  • The board holds one editor pet at a time; the full installer erases it.
