Error when importing the project via AndroidStudio

I didn't manage to import the project to android studio (I am a newbie to android studio though). When I try, I am getting following error:

For people still having this problem, this is a rather specific solution, but I was using this as a library in my main project, and I had to add this to my MAIN PROJECT'S build.gradle:

this seemed to work for me, don't know if there is a better solution out there. I like it because changing my main project's details will reflect the changes in the library as well.

I'm having the same issue and have tried the method posted by @bestvibes with no luck.

I'm using Android Studio 0.8.14 and am trying to import ParseLoginUI following these steps:

1. Clone from this git repository
2. Go into my project in Android Studio
3. Click: File > Project Structure
4. Click on the '+' in the top-left corner
5. Click on the 'More Modules' and select 'Import Existing Project'
6. Go to the local git repo for ParseLoginUI and import the subfold ParseLoginUI

This results in the following error (as above):

../ParseLoginUI/build.gradle
Error:(10, 0) Cannot get property 'compileSdkVersion' on extra properties extension as it does not exist

In Android Studio it indicates that in the build.gradle there are a lot of unresolvable symbols.

Any ideas?

Ok, after looking through this repositories gradle settings and properties, I finally got the project imported.

This is what I did:

1. Cloned this repo locally
2. Updated the facebook subrepo as per the instructions: Fetch the Facebook SDK Git submodule by running the following command in your local ParseUI-Android repository directory: git submodule update --init --recursive
3. Copied the ParseLoginUI and facebook directories in the repo to the root of my project folder
4. Manually edited the build.gradle in the root of the project folder (thanks @bestvibes), NOT the app module build.gradle with the following lines:

ext {
    compileSdkVersion = 21
    buildToolsVersion = "20.0.0"

    minSdkVersion = 15
    targetSdkVersion = 21
}

1. Manually edited settings.gradle with the following lines

include ':ParseLoginUI'
include ':facebook-sdk:facebook'

Seems to be working so far.

Couple of things I noticed is that when importing a module in Android Studio it doesn't not import all the root gradle files of the imported project, so certain properties weren't defined (eg. facebook-sdk/gradle.properties did not exist).

As per the documentation:
2. Import this repository's projects with Android Studio. The project has Maven dependencies on the Facebook SDK and the Bolts framework. Android Studio automatically resolves these.

This is not true. You don't just import the ParseLoginUI module and you're all set. I want to use this in several projects because I love Parse but in this state I'm leaning towards using Login with Facebook.

I revisited this as I wanted to update to the latest version of ParseLoginUI.

With AndroidStudio 1.0.1, I did the following to get it to work:

1. Cloned project locally
2. In my AndroidStudio Project, clicked on File > Import Module
3. In the New Module pop-up updated the source directory to the Cloned Project directory from step 1 (~/ParseUI-Android/ParseLoginUI)
4. Clicked on File > Project Structure in AndroidStudio
5. Under Modules, clicked on my app and on the right-side interface, clicked on the Dependencies tab
6. At the bottom of the tab, clicked on the "+" symbol and in the context menu the "Module Dependency" option
7. In the Choose Modules pop-up, clicked on :ParseLoginUI and then OK
8. Back in the Project Structure clicked "OK" to apply the updates and add the module into the build.gradle file for my app. Your app's build.gradle file should now have a new line in the dependencies: `compile project(':ParseLoginUI')
9. Lastly, update my Project build.gradle file to include the variables required by the ParseLoginUI module as per my post above.

This seems to work. Keep in mind I have not implemented any third party logins (eg. Facebook and Twitter) so I'm not sure if they work too.

Thanks @bestvibes and @activelogic for helpful solutions. We incorporated your feedback in the latest update so hopefully this will make importing easier in the future.

• Duplicated Gradle variable values (e.g. minSdkVersion) in ParseLoginUI library's build.gradle so that developers won't have to redefine them in their top-level build.gradle when they import the library.
• Added a new section in the README specifically for importing ParseLoginUI into the developers' own apps, partly adapted from @activelogic's comments here. Previously, the README only contained instructions for running the sample apps as a separate project.

When importing ParseUI the rootProject.ext.* lines in the gradle file did compile.

I ended up replacing the lines as shown below but am curious if it is incorrect to do so.

@cyrixmorten I tried what you did and it helped somewhat. I was also wondering if it was incorrect to change the lines like that, but one thing I tried is just defining bolts, androidSupport, parse, and facebookSDK in the ext{} section like @bestvibes did with the minSdkVersion and the other numbers. In either case, however, I'm still getting this error: "Error:Execution failed for task ':app:processDebugResources'. > com.android.ide.common.process.ProcessException: org.gradle.process.internal.ExecException: Process 'command '/Users/Javier/Library/Android/sdk/build-tools/23.0.0/aapt'' finished with non-zero exit value 1." Sometimes after messing with the gradle files it'll say that the non-zero exit value is 2, but I'm not sure what I'm doing that changes the number. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? On Stack Overflow it was suggested that there were multiple copies of the support library, but using the top solution did not fix this error for me. Also do I need the Facebook SDK in order to use ParseLoginUI? Right now I'm only interested in using ParseQueryAdapter.

@jhonkaman Actually just battled the same issue and forgot to post it here.

Ok here goes:

1. Follow the import of ParseUI as described (except the link to download parse SDK)

• That is.. Do not download jars and add to libs
• In Android Studio:
  1. VCS -> Checkout from version... -> GitHub -> https://github.com/ParsePlatform/ParseUI-Android.git
  2. File -> New -> import module -> ParseUI
  3. (Not sure is needed) File -> Project structure -> dependencies -> add module dependency -> ParseUI

Hope this covers the step, to be fair I tried redoing the steps but my Android Studio was acting up for some reason.

2. Add the ext entry to your projects build.gradle (I took it directly from the project build.gradle of ParseUI)

Now this is the step that produces multiple copies if you follow the instruction to download jars, because bolts, facebook and twitter will already be included in that case, instead your dependencies should look like this:

3. Your module dependencies:

@jhonkaman @cyrixmorten , thanks for the replies guys. We notice this problem so in this PR #67 , we make changes in ParseLogin gradle to make sure next time you import it there is no path problems.

@wangmengyan95 After sticking with my solution until now (importing the source project and fiddling with parse dependencies) I went back to see if things had changed.

Just wanted to say that the new gradle dependencies are MUCH better... Had no issues at all and could continue my development straight away. Good job! 👍
