Line padding. Set the pause after a line in its inspector, under Pad after, in seconds. Below zero,
the next line cuts in before this one ends. An empty field shows the pause the line takes instead and
where it comes from. A snippet, group, block, or scene can set a Default pad for the lines inside it, and
the project sets one under General in Project Settings (0.6 seconds unless you change it). An option's
prompt has one too, which times the reply.
A line that ends its snippet can't be cut in on, because what follows isn't certain until the story
gets there. Its field starts at zero, and if a line ends up there with a negative pause after a move or
a merge, the problems bar says so straight away.
Play times a scene the way the game will. Continue holds each line for the length of its recording,
or for an estimate of its reading time when there's no recording, then waits its pause. A cut-in line
arrives while the one before is still playing, and with audio on you hear the two overlap. The choices
appear as the last line before them starts, while it's still playing, and The End once every line has
finished. Speed is now Half, Normal, Double, or Instant, speeds up or slows down the whole timing, and
takes effect as soon as you change it. Step still moves on only when you ask.
Publish Playable HTML times a scene the same way. The page holds each line for an estimate of its
reading time, then waits its pause, so a cut-in arrives before the line it cuts into has finished, and
its choices and its end come when Play's do. Its Speed control is now Half, Normal, Double, or Instant
too.
