RAWmakase 0.4.3
RAWmakase 0.4.3 expands Library file management to whole folders, memory cards, external drives and SMB shares on macOS. It also imports .cube LUTs as creative profiles and fixes bright-edge halos, dark skies with Dehaze, and displaced local adjustments when lens corrections are enabled.
New
- Move whole folders between catalog roots and drives. Drag a folder onto a destination in the Folders panel or choose Move Folder…. Moves to another drive copy and verify the entire folder, including files outside the catalog, before the catalog follows; originals go to the Trash when the source drive supports it. (#576, #579)
- Put a whole folder in the Trash. Choose Move to Trash… in a non-root folder's menu. The confirmation counts its photos, subfolders and other files, including files outside the catalog. RAWmakase checks the contents again before moving anything and warns that restoring the files does not restore edits held in the catalog. Empty catalog roots can now be removed through Remove from Catalog…. (#599)
- Import .cube LUTs as creative profiles. Use Import profiles… in Develop's Profile menu or Import Profiles… in Preferences to select LUT files or a folder of them. Choose the imported look in Profile and adjust its Amount from 0–200%. Imports support 1D and 3D cubes, including cubes with a 1D shaper, and report approximations or unsupported files. Looks are grouped by their pack or folder in the Profile menu. (#588, #591, #608)
Improved
- Move photos and folders to and from FAT and exFAT drives, including memory cards and external SSDs. On macOS, moves also support SMB shares such as a NAS. Because macOS has no Trash on an SMB share, moving off one leaves the verified originals there; the confirmation explains this before copying. Other network filesystems, and SMB on Linux or Windows, remain unsupported for moves between drives. (#580, #581, #602)
- Cross-drive moves preserve file extras. Finder tags, resource forks and other extended attributes on macOS, user extended attributes on Linux, and alternate data streams on Windows are copied and checked. A destination that cannot preserve them leaves the source in place and reports why. (#585)
- The Folders panel groups roots under their actual drive, with the startup disk first and other drives named separately, including network shares. (#596)
- Highlights −100 reaches very bright areas in dark scenes, improving recovery of bright lamps and similar broad highlights while protecting fine bright detail. (#589)
Fixed
- Local adjustments stay aligned when lens corrections are enabled. Shadows, Highlights, Clarity and Texture now sample their local maps at the corrected image position, fixing displaced contrast around edges. (#611)
- Clarity produces fewer halos around narrow bright edges, such as slats and window frames. (#606)
- Negative Highlights combined with positive Dehaze no longer turns skies black. Dehaze now accounts for local tone and mask Exposure adjustments consistently. (#607)
- Imported Camera Raw looks retain their saved Amount when XMP stores it as an element instead of an attribute; their UUID is read in that form too. (#608)
- Synchronize Folder's review opens from Develop, so its results can be reviewed without first switching to Library. (#605)
Upgrade notes and limitations
- Existing edits use the updated rendering engine. Photos with strong Highlights recovery, Clarity, Dehaze or lens corrections may look different; saved slider values are preserved.
- Finish or resolve unfinished folder Trash operations in 0.4.3 before returning to 0.4.2 or earlier. Those versions cannot recover the new operation type and refuse affected file operations until it is resolved.
- File moves, renames and Trash operations have no Edit > Undo. Restoring a trashed file or folder does not restore edits removed from the catalog. Drives without a suitable Trash keep originals rather than permanently deleting them.
- LUTs must accept standard 0–1 display colour input. Log/HDR-input LUTs and other LUT formats are unsupported; large cubes and baked shapers can require approximation. Camera Raw comparisons cover synthetic and selected photographic LUTs, not every LUT or photo, and do not establish identical rendering. Black-and-white treatment combined with a look can differ from Camera Raw.
Thanks to @lukewalker2010 for the original cube reader and @nicolasernult-lgtm for requesting LUT import (#582).
