v1.29.4
Highlights
Session consultation (ask-session)
The ask-session helper — which asks another Claude Code or Codex
session a question using that session's own context, working directory
and tools — is now under version control, and its Codex path no longer
hand-rolls transcript handling (#217).
Previously the helper cloned a Codex session by copying its JSONL
transcript itself. That parsing could mistake Unicode text separators
appearing inside a valid message for record boundaries, corrupting
the cloned context. The helper now delegates forking entirely to Codex
via native codex exec fork, so transcript semantics are the CLI's
problem, not ours. Explicit continuation still uses exec resume.
Also in this change:
- The reported fork ID is the real one Codex created, instead of a
locally guessed value. - A missing final answer is now an error rather than a success with
empty output — a consultation that produced nothing no longer looks
like one that worked. - The helper ships with docs (
scripts/ask-session.md) and a test
suite (49 tests).
Upgrade note: the Codex path requires a Codex CLI with
exec fork support (verified against 0.162.0). There is no
manual-copy fallback.
