Package doesn't work with IDE 2.3.4 via Boards Manager

I've got a couple of NRF52840 ProMini to try, and I wanted to use this package but I faced some troubles.

I am unable to select any board from the package using Arduino IDE 2.3.4, and I am not alone with the issue.

• First, the package doesn't show up in the Boards Manager after adding it's GitHub URL in Preferences. The same issue is mentioned on Japanese page: SuperMini nRF52840 を arduino IDE で使えるようにする - xcr4k’s blog.
  As mentioned on that page - when I add the URLs of the other NRF52 packages (Adafruit and Seed) above pdcook URL, then it shows up for downloads in the Boards Manager.
• But then the other issue is that after successful installation (without any errors/warning), I am unable to select any of the boards from this package. When I try to select one, the IDE just keeps showing the board that was selected previously.
• There is a workaround to use an older IDE - just like mentioned on that Japanese page, I am able to install and select the board using an older IDE 1.8.19, but I don't like that, I would prefer to use the current IDE.
• In parallel I was in touch with another user on Arduino froums. He managed to get it working. He said he had the same issue, so he managed the installation directly via Github as described in the optional development instructions via git. Some subdirectories needed to be cloned separately. This was not mentioned in the instructions. But in the end it worked for him.

Would be nice to get it working directly via Boards Manager.

Arduino is becoming annoyingly buggy, currently it feels like there are more bugs than success

• like not being to copy ALL the serial output (only visible copies) - AND THIS REALLY, REALLY, ANNOYING BUG HAS BEEN ABOUT OF FOR SEVERAL YEARS (BY THE ARDUINO DEVS) TOO.

• or the way the 2.3.4 IDE ALWAYS LOSES THE BOARD TYPE, when a 100% IDENTICAL BOARD is plugged in - its just BUG AFTER BUG AFTER BUG

My advise is - take the time and learn to use PlatformIO, It takes a a few days learning first, but is 200% better after that

• HINT - when stymied, it's much quicker to just ask chatGPT or CoPilot how to correct whatever has halted your progress

FYI - To make this transfer easier, I'm currently working on a Python utility to convert any Arduino board to PIO, and will put it on github when its finished

I tried it myself. I was able to install it with git command (faced some errors, had to clean some cache); and now the board is available in Arduino IDE and I am able to select it.

However, trying to compile various examples I keep getting the error related to Adafruit TinyUSB (Adafruit_USBD_CDC.h: No such file or directory) which seems to be an incorrectly defined dependency somewhere. I get this error regardless I install TinyUSB library or not.

For Adafruit NRF52 boards there is no need to install TinyUSB, it's already embedded.

I haven't found yet how to fix it. And I wonder if there are more dependencies like this that will need to be fixed.

I was having the same issues, I am glad you posted that blog, it helped me a lot.

I manage to go trough all steps from that blog site. I am now tuck on Adafruit_USBD_CDC.h same as you.

UPDATE: I have resolved Adafruit_USBD_CDC.h error by simply adding #include "Adafruit_TinyUSB.h" into the sketch

I had to install BSP via git, but I had the error "fatal: No url found for submodule path 'libraries/Adafruit_nRFCrypto' in .gitmodules", but I do not how resolve, do you have any idea?

Unfortunately doesn't work for me, regardless I have Adafruit TinyUSB library installed or now. Explicitly including Adafruit_TinyUSB.h doesn't help with Adafruit_USBD_CDC.h error :(

edit: I got it working!

I managed to get the board to show up in Arduino IDE following all the steps:
1. Install via git - after doing /

It originally told me that it couldn't find the arm gnu toolchain, so i installed it and set the correct path for the arm-none-eabi compiler manually in platform.txt.

however, now I am still facing missing header files, so I'm not really sure if the steps are working.

Extract it and copy CMSIS/Core/Include/ to ~\Documents\Arduino\hardware\nRFMicro\nRFMicro-Arduino-Core\cores\nRF5/nordic/nrfx/mdk/

Fix for -larm_cortexM4lf_math:
Download this file https://github.com/ARM-software/CMSIS_4/blob/master/CMSIS/Lib/GCC/libarm_cortexM4lf_math.a and put it in C:\Program Files\Arm GNU Toolchain\14.2 rel1\arm-none-eabi\lib\ or wherever the toolchain is installed

then, add #include "Adafruit_TinyUSB.h"

Next step: (refer to the forum link posted) upgrading the bootloader:
the file should already be present at ~\Documents\Arduino\hardware\nRFMicro\nRFMicro-Arduino-Core\bootloader\SuperMini_nRF52840.

set programmer to Bootloader DFU, make sure the board itself is in flash mode (short rst to gnd 2x), then burn the bootloader.

After that, sketches can be uploaded like normal !!

I'm using Arduino 2.3.4 and facing the same issue with the BSP. I suppose I'm half way there... Here's what I did so far:

2. Replaced the contents of file: .gitmodule with:

I added: "#include "Adafruit_TinyUSB.h" to the top of my sketch, but that doesn't make a difference.
My sketch is a default fade-example, just to get it to compile, but so far, not yet. The error message I get is:

I have an issue with bootloaders. When using the Supermini one, I am able to upload firmware, but it doesn't work on more difficult code (doesn't write to serial, led doesn't work), simple code like blink works fine. On this firmware Meshtastic firmware does upload with dropping the file to the board, but the board only flashes quickly (my code also uses LoRa and GPS). When I burn the Nice!Nano v2 bootloader, Meshtastic works, but Arduino IDE shows error:

I managed to solve the issue where the board manager doesn't show up the nrfMicro boards by adding the seedstudio repository as well:
https://files.seeedstudio.com/arduino/package_seeeduino_boards_index.json

When I added that and the nrfMicro repository as well the nrfMicro boards showed up the the board manager.

(I think that I had to restart the Arduino IDE for the board to show up)

Then I had the issue that was described here where you cannot select the target board which I solved by renaming the board folder.

I then flashed the promicro bootloader and blinky program, this eventually worked but for sure reason I had to try flashing multiple times until it worked :/

Tutorial for Arduino IDE 2.3.6:

1. Open Arduino IDE
2. Go to File > Preferences
3. Click the copy icon on the right side of "Additional boards manager URLs"
4. Paste these two lines into the text box and click OK:
   https://files.seeedstudio.com/arduino/package_seeeduino_boards_index.json
   https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pdcook/nRFMicro-Arduino-Core/main/package_nRFMicro_index.json
5. Restart Arduino IDE
6. Go to Tools > Board: > Boards Manager...
7. Search for "nrfmicro" (nRFMicro-like Boards by pdcook)
8. Click Install
9. Open %AppData%\Local\Arduino15\packages
10. Rename the "nRFMicro-like Boards" folder to "nRFMicro"
11. Restart Arduino IDE
12. Go to Tools > Board: > nRFMicro-like Boards > SuperMini nRF52840 (or your preferred board)
