Installation 08 1.4

Split-screen on the PS5, and MCC on a USB drive. Each extra player signs in their own PS5 user and picks up their own DualSense controller, and your MCC files can live on a USB drive instead of internal storage.

New

  • PS5 split-screen with two or more controllers. Before, the PS5 app only passed on the controller of the user in front, so player 2 had no controller. Now it reads the controller of every signed-in user, up to four, with rumble. Players can sign in before or after opening Installation 08, and the menu picks them up within a couple of seconds. Tested with two DualSense controllers.

  • Updating the PS5 app updates the game. Replace /data/homebrew/PPSA99908 with the new version and the app copies its new installation08.exe into /data/installation08 on its next start. You no longer need to copy the exe by hand. Settings and saves stay.

  • MCC on a USB drive. Put your MCC folders on a USB drive formatted exFAT, in installation08/mcc at the top of the drive, laid out like the internal folder (installation08/mcc/halo3/…, installation08/mcc/mcc/binaries/win64/…). With the drive plugged in, Installation 08 plays from it instead of /data/installation08/mcc, which frees up the PS5's internal storage. Saves and settings stay on the PS5.

Known limits

  • The PS5 doesn't allow PS4 (DualShock 4) controllers in PS5 apps. Installation 08 can see them, but the system sends it no input from them. Each player needs a DualSense.
  • LAN co-op starts from the beginning of a mission. The games don't continue a network co-op game from a checkpoint.
  • A game type's own options (starting weapons and so on) can't be edited yet.

Updating from 1.3

  • PS5: replace /data/homebrew/PPSA99908 with the one in Installation08-PS5-1.4.zip. The 1.4 app puts the 1.4 installation08.exe in place the first time it opens.
  • PC: replace installation08.exe with the 1.4 one.

Downloads

  • Installation08-PS5-1.4.zip: the PS5 app. Unzip it and copy PPSA99908 to /data/homebrew on the PS5.
  • Installation08-1.4.zip: installation08.exe for a Windows PC, to play LAN games with a PS5, or on the PC itself.

1.3 and 1.4 machines can still play LAN and online games together, because nothing in the network changed. No game files are included, so you need your own copy of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
The PS5 app contains prospero-win's title and Wine runtime (LGPL 2.1+, source at github.com/mpereiraesaa/prospero-win; the app's changes are in its installation08-app.patch), Mesa (MIT), DXVK 2.6.2 (zlib) and the Lapy helper. SOURCES.txt and LICENSES/ in the app list them all.

Installation 08 1.3

Installation 08 1.3

Halo: The Master Chief Collection on your jailbroken PS5. Installation 08 is now its own PS5 app: install it, copy your MCC folders over, and open it from the home screen. Prospero Win isn't needed any more. And it plays online: host from home, and friends join from anywhere.

New

  • A PS5 app. Installation08-PS5-1.3.zip holds PPSA99908, an app for ShadowMountPlus that starts straight into Installation 08. It brings its own copy of Wine and sets itself up in /data/installation08 the first time it opens. MCC goes in /data/installation08/mcc. Quitting returns to the home screen.
  • Online play. Set a lobby to Private and friends anywhere join with its join code (Browse games > Join with a code), or set it to Public and it's listed in Browse games for anyone. Campaign co-op, Spartan Ops, Firefight, custom games and Forge, between PS5s and PCs. Nothing to set up on your router: the Installation 08 server introduces the players and passes their traffic on when they can't connect directly. Every packet is encrypted end to end, and the server never sees a Private lobby's code. Tested with a PS5 at home and a PC on a phone's mobile data, each hosting.
  • Smooth co-op for joined players. In campaign, Spartan Ops and Firefight (every game but Halo CE, which works differently), a joined machine now evens out the timing of the host's updates instead of playing them the moment they land. Online co-op no longer stutters for the players who join, and LAN co-op is smoother too. It costs the joined players a little extra delay, which adjusts to the connection: about 10 ms at home, up to about 50 ms over a phone's mobile data.
  • Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer. Custom games and Forge on every H2A map, with its classic and Forge layouts.
  • Lobbies for every mode. Campaign, Multiplayer, Firefight, Spartan Ops and Forge each open a lobby. Set Lobby to LAN and others on your network join from Browse games on the main menu. This replaces the LAN games menu.
  • Custom games sorted by team size (4v4, 8v8 …) or kind of game.
  • LAN play is encrypted too, and only machines on your own network can join a LAN lobby.
  • Three or more machines in one LAN game work reliably. Tested with a PS5 and two PCs.

Fixes

  • On the PS5, choosing Return to main menu during a LAN game of H2A no longer crashes.
  • On the PS5, returning to the menu after a game with three or more players no longer crashes.
  • A LAN game no longer fails to start on a machine that missed the host's start message.
  • A player who leaves a LAN game stops sending game traffic straight away.
  • The quit option says where it goes: home screen (PS5 app), Prospero Win, or desktop.

Changed

  • Installation 08 is played with controllers. A keyboard still works in its own menus, but keyboard and mouse play in the games is gone.
  • The PS5 package includes Microsoft's ucrtbase.dll, so there's no file to copy from Windows any more.

Coming from 1.2 on Prospero Win

  • Either install the PS5 app (README-PS5.txt, "Coming from Prospero Win", covers moving your settings, saves and MCC folders), or keep using Prospero Win and replace installation08.exe in its prefix with the 1.3 one.

Known limits

  • LAN co-op starts from the beginning of a mission. The games don't continue a network co-op game from a checkpoint.
  • A game type's own options (starting weapons and so on) can't be edited yet.
  • Online play is new. Players who connect directly can see each other's IP addresses, so Private is the safer choice with friends; Public lobbies are open to anyone.

Downloads

  • Installation08-PS5-1.3.zip: the PS5 app. Unzip it and copy PPSA99908 to /data/homebrew on the PS5.
  • Installation08-1.3.zip: installation08.exe for a Windows PC, to play LAN games with a PS5, or on the PC itself.

Every machine needs 1.3, for LAN and online games.

Installation 08 1.2

Halo: The Master Chief Collection on your jailbroken PS5. This release adds LAN play, so PS5s and PCs on the same network play together, campaign co-op included.

New

  • LAN campaign co-op for up to 4 players on your network, plus Spartan Ops co-op in Halo 4. Tested in Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4, between PCs and between a PS5 and a PC with either one hosting. Halo CE, ODST and Reach co-op are untested.
  • A LAN lobby. Choose Host a game under LAN games, then pick the game, mode and options (mission and difficulty, or map and game type). Players see each change and whether they can play it: Ready, or which game or map is missing. The host can start without players who can't play. After a game everyone returns to the lobby, still joined.
  • LAN custom games, Forge and Firefight in every game that has them. The host's game type and Forge map are sent to everyone.
  • Your player name. Asked the first time Installation 08 starts, with an on-screen keyboard for controllers (Square / X deletes). It's your name in the games and in LAN lobbies, and shows at the top right of the menus. Settings > Your name changes it.
  • MCC's own settings, in Controls, Video, Audio and Accessibility: look sensitivity and acceleration, dead zones, flight inversion, vibration, toggle or hold crouch and zoom, vehicle FOV, crosshair position, HUD scale, frame rate limit (60 to unlimited), graphics quality, anti-aliasing, motion blur, Spartan voice, subtitles, and color blind modes.
  • Forge maps are saved. Save map and Save as a new map are in the Forge pause menu, and there's a Map variant choice on the Custom game and Forge pages.
  • Armor and colors: armor pieces, colors, visor and Spartan or Elite per game, and a service tag for every game.
  • Halo 4 loadouts: five loadouts with every weapon, armor ability, tactical package and support upgrade, for game types that allow your own.
  • Settings changed in a game's own menus are kept.
  • F12 in a game saves a screenshot to the screenshots folder.
  • A new main menu, with one tile per game, and a splash screen at start.

Fixes

  • Halo CE and Halo 2 now use high graphics quality. Before this they ran at the lowest settings.
  • Starting a game after quitting one from its pause menu no longer freezes.
  • Halo 2 no longer hangs when a game ends by itself (for example leaving from its own pause menu).
  • On the PS5, returning to the menu after a game no longer crashes.
  • Split-screen view settings for the games that ask the host for them.

New PS5 setup step: one file from Windows. Copy C:\Windows\System32\ucrtbase.dll from your PC next to installation08.exe on the PS5 (README-PS5.txt, step 2.4). The 1.2 profile requires it, and Installation 08 won't start without it. It keeps a PS5 and a PC in step in LAN games: the PS5's Wine does some of the games' math very slightly differently from Windows, enough for co-op between them to drift out of sync.

Known limits

  • LAN co-op starts from the beginning of a mission. The games don't continue a network co-op game from a checkpoint.
  • A game type's own options (starting weapons and so on) can't be edited yet.

Downloads

  • Installation08-PS5.zip: the PS5 package for prospero-win. Already on 1.1? Replace installation08.exe, copy in ucrtbase.dll and change one profile line (README-PS5.txt, "Updating").
  • Installation08-1.2.zip: installation08.exe for a Windows PC, to play LAN games with a PS5, or on the PC itself.

LAN machines all need 1.2. No game files are included, so you need your own copy of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
The PS5 package contains Wine and prospero-win files (LGPL 2.1+, source at github.com/mpereiraesaa/prospero-win) and DXVK 2.6.2 (zlib).

Installation 08 1.1

New

  • Loading screens with a progress bar while a game, a mission or a restart loads, and while returning to the menu.
  • PS5 package for prospero-win: copy it and your MCC files to the console over FTP, no PC tools needed. See ps5/README-PS5.txt.

Fixes

  • Games now find their files when Installation 08 is started from outside the MCC folder (it switches to the MCC folder itself).
  • Under Wine, MCC's own XAudio 2.9 is put in the prefix when it only has Wine's.

Downloads
