PromptBar 2.0 is a complete rebuild.

It does two things, and it does them well:

  1. Wraps any web-based chat you point it at in a clean, distraction-free popover.
  2. Talks natively to any chat-completions API endpoint you configure. Your key, your model, your endpoint, your data.

It ships empty. No bundled providers, no bundled logos, no bundled brand names. You decide what goes in the menubar, and the app stays out of your way.

What's new

Liquid Glass UI

  • Built top-to-bottom on macOS 26 Tahoe's Liquid Glass material system.
  • New popup, Settings window (Web Chats / API Endpoints / Prompts / General / About), Quick Add sheet, About window.

Bring Your Own API Key

  • Connect any endpoint that speaks the standard POST /chat/completions schema.
  • Server-Sent Events streaming with multi-conversation history and mid-stream cancel.
  • API keys live in the macOS Keychain, not UserDefaults, not iCloud.
  • System prompt configurable per endpoint.

Prompt Library

  • Save your best prompts once. Reuse them in any chat. Search, tag, ship.
  • One-tap insert from the chat composer.

Privacy hardening

  • Firebase Analytics, Firebase Remote Config, and the GoogleService-Info.plist are all gone.
  • No analytics, no telemetry, no remote config of any kind.
  • Updates check GitHub Releases directly.

Bug fixes

  • Paperclip upload (Apple Review 2.1): popover now pins to .applicationDefined while the open panel is up, so the file picker stays put.

Power moves

  • ⌘⇧C from anywhere on the system to toggle the popover.
  • ⌘P (inside chat) for the Prompt Library quick picker.
  • ⌘↩ to send.
  • Always-on-top mode, three window sizes, one-click cookie sweep.

Breaking changes

  • Deployment target bumped to macOS 26.0. Earlier macOS releases are no longer supported.
  • No preloaded providers. When you update from 1.x, your previously-configured chats won't carry over. You'll add your URLs (and now optionally API endpoints) the way you want them.
  • Firebase is gone. Remote-pushed config no longer exists. If you relied on the dynamic chat list, you'll add chats manually now.

Install

Download the signed and notarized .pkg below, or grab it from the Ko-fi shop to help fund the next version.

Privacy

  • No accounts. No analytics. No telemetry.
  • API keys in the macOS Keychain.
  • Your messages go straight from your Mac to the URL you configured. No relay.
