2.13.0

Eto.Forms tooling is now available in Visual Studio Code and JetBrains Rider, as well as Visual Studio. All three share the same live preview and code completion for .xeto and .jeto files, and are built for Eto.Forms 2.13.

What's new

New editors

• A new VS Code extension. Open the preview beside the editor from the button in the editor's title bar.
• A new Rider plugin. The preview shows in the Eto Preview tool window.

Live preview (all editors)

• Previews views written in XAML (.xeto), JSON (.jeto) or code (.eto.cs), and redraws as you type and after each build.
• Runs in its own process, so it works with modern .NET and shows your own custom controls once the project is built.
• Pick the platform to draw with and, for projects on Eto 2.12 or newer, the theme. The platforms are WPF or WinForms on Windows, macOS or Mac64 on macOS, and GTK wherever GTK 3 is installed. Auto picks the one your solution uses.
• Drag the corner handle to try other sizes.
• Errors in your XAML or JSON are underlined in the editor where they happen.
• d:DataContext gives the preview sample data to show (needs Eto 2.13 or newer in your project), and Control.IsDesignMode lets your own controls tell when they're being previewed.
• In Visual Studio, show the design, the code, or both, stacked or side by side. The preview now also follows Visual Studio's colours.

Code completion (all editors)

• Completes controls, properties, events and values, including those from your own project and the libraries it references, wherever your build puts them.
• Picking one of your own controls in a .xeto file adds the xmlns it needs.
• Completes binding paths from the nearest d:DataContext or DataContext, and the options of markup extensions.
• Completes event handlers from your code-behind. In VS Code and Visual Studio it can also create a missing handler and go to an existing handler's definition.
• Typing the closing quote accepts the selected suggestion and steps over the quote that's already there.
• Hover over a name to see its Eto.Forms documentation.

Requirements

• The .NET 8 runtime or newer. On Windows the preview also needs the .NET 8 Desktop Runtime, and on Linux GTK 3.

Removed

• The Visual Studio for Mac extension, since Microsoft has retired that product. Use VS Code or Rider on macOS instead.
• Support for Visual Studio 2019.
