Note

The skeleton is the starting point of new applications: existing applications are not changed by this release, but can copy the parts they need. If you do, note that a .env file is now required and that DEBUG defaults to 0.

.env Files (PR #31)

  • The first file that exists is loaded, and the files are not merged: .env.{APP_ENV}.local, .env.{APP_ENV}, .env.local, .env, each checked in config/ and then in the project root. Real environment variables are not overwritten. config/core.php passes the list to the josegonzalez/dotenv Loader instead of a hand-written loop
  • A .env file is required: copy config/.env.example to config/.env. In production, deploy an empty config/.env and set real environment variables
  • config/.env.test sets every variable of the tests; config/.env.test.local replaces it
  • .gitignore also ignores .env.local and .env.*.local in the project root

Debug Level

  • DEBUG defaults to 0 when not set, and is passed to Configure as it is (0, 1 or 2; true/false are no longer converted). config/.env.example sets DEBUG="0"

Configuration Comments

  • The comments added to config/ are trimmed back to the style of CakePHP, and the notes about pieceofcake2/cakephp versions older than the required 2.12.7 are removed
